Scanning is inconsistent with brother ADS-1600W. Whenever the Scan Dialog pops up,
there is an error stating Opening a session on the device is not possible. -9921.
This is a Mac issue and really is annoying and time consuming.
Does anyone know a workaround?
Thank you

Try avoiding duing the scanning "through" Acrobat becuase you are using Apple's "Image Capture" to do the scanning, not your Brother's software.
Just scan directly with the software that came with your scanner and avoid Image Capture, it's crap.

Thank you,
so what you are saying is using Acrobat Pro DC to initate the scan is not the way to go?
Unfortunately, brother does not have a working software for the current OS anymore.
I read somewhere that Acrobat itself can use the scanner driver to scan (replacing the Brother Scan Suite) on windows. Something like that is not possible, right?

Yes, what I'm saying is that if you scan from Acrobat you are using Image Capture.
However, if your Brother's software is currently not working with your new OS, first I'd suggest that you go to the Brother's website and see if there's a new version. If not, than check out the software ViewScan (viewscan.com). Their software is pretty good and can work with just about any scanner.
If you also have any need to scan photographic images, I can easily suggest you check out SilverFast. But warning: it's not cheap and it has a learning curve but it is best scanning software out there. But if all you're doing are documents, than it's overkill.
If you do not want to do eitehr of them than you are stuck with Image Capture. But you can use that either from within Acrobat or by itself.
Good luck!!

thanks, I am trying VueScan now and although the interface is horrible, it seems to work quite well. Thanks for clarifying.

I don't disagree with your analasis of VueScan's interface, it's not one of my favorites. ;>)
Here's some information on scanning for OCR that I wrote a few years back, you might find some points of interest.
