Question

Error while opening pdf with Internet Explorer

After the most recent update for Adobe Acrobat Reader DC (2021.011.20039), an error (103:103) is created when trying to view pdfs with Internet Explorer. The display is greyed out, hangs for a couple minutes then displays the error.  I have tried and recreated this issue on several computers. This is only happening with the 64-bit version of Adobe Acrobat Reader. The 32-bit version of Adobe Acrobat Reader works fine when opening pdfs in Internet Explorer thus our solution at the moment is to uninstall the 64-bit version of the software / install the 32-bit version. The common solution for this error (103:103) of disabling Protected Mode on startup does not work to fix the problem.

OS Environment: Windows 10 Pro

Your problem is most likely using Internet Explorer, which is 32-bit so that explains the reason the 64-bit won't work.

Why are you using IE in this day and age--especially on Windows 10?

That's not correct. Windows 10 (64-bit versions) use the 64-bit version of Internet Explorer.

I don't use Internet Explorer as my personal browser but a few of the applications where I work integrate Internet Explorer into their code. We ran into this problem while working with one of those applications.

You are correct--my mistake.

Is the Adobe plugin showing in the Add-on Types?
