Exported PDF (from Indesign) prints fuzzy and grey instead of black

Hi

For several months we experience an annoying problem.

Each time we export a pdf from Indesign (Press Quality preset) and we try to print that same pdf , our printer gives us grey text (instead of the wanted black) and fuzzy/blurry fonts.

For our black I use the preset [Black] in Indesign. The settings in the appearance of black is all set to 'All blacks as Rich Black'.

Does anyone experienced the same problems and solved this issue?

Thanks in advance!

Olivier

Hi

Is that something I need to do in my export to PDF from Indesign?

Or when I print the pdf. I use Preview from Mac OS to print the pdf's, but even with Acrobat PDF I get the same result.

Only when I select 'no color management' in Acrobat PDF, I get true blacks.

But Preview OSX doesn't have the same option...

Preview is an Apple program and according to sources "not a replacement for Acrobat".

The PDF file as created is OK. The problem appears during printing. With my installation (Windows 7; Acrobat Pro; Canon laser printer) all works fine.

The Advanced Print tab is a feature of Acrobat.

There are some reasons possible to have the phenomena you describe. Is it possible to see one of your PDF files first hand? If the content is confidential, feel free to create a dummy file.

Very often blurry/fuzzy fonts means that there is some transparency that lies over the text. For some output settings this is solved by compositing and rendering as image that part. If improperly done, this results in some of the problems you describe.

Please state the version of your Indesign. And please state the version of the PDF generated. Anything below 1.4 will for sure flatten the transparency.

The FIVE AM text is not black but also contains CMY-parts! Is that intended?

I'm on my way out. I will take a few minutes more later to analyse the PDF.
