External JS Editor crashes Acrobat Pro DC on a Mac

Contributor ,

Hi everyone,

I have set up an External JS Editor in Acrobat Pro DC on a Mac.

When trying this option javascripts open in the external editor and a spinning beachball starts Acrobat Pro DC. Closing the javascript, in the external editor, doesn't make the beachball go away. In the end I have to force-quit Acrobat Pro.

Does anyone know how I can solve this issue?

Thanks in advance.

Hi @deckarduk

Hope you are doing well and sorry to hear that.

Would you mind sharing the name of the external JS Editor, also please check for any missing/pending updates for the external JS editor and see if that works

Also, what is the version of the Acrobat DC you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the recent version 23.01.2006x installed. Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once.

Please try to reset the Acrobat preferences as described here https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/how-to-reset-acrobat-preference-settings-to-defau...

You may also try to create a new test user profile with full admin rights or enable the root account in MAC and try using the application there and check.

If it still crashes, please collect the crash logs as described here https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/collect-logs-crash-freeze.html and share them via any cloud storage. Just upload the log file to the cloud and generate the link and share that link with us for further investigation.

Regards

Amal

Hi Amal,

Thanks for the help.

I've tried using BBEdit and TextWrangler so far.

The version of Acrobat Pro DC is 2021.007.20099.

I'll have a look at the other information you have posted.

Thanks again.
