After making changes and updates to my PDF file. I saved it and when I returned later in the day and opened the file all my text is now randomly boxes. I printed it out to see if it was a visual error, its not. Is there anyway to fix this?

Whoever created the original version of the PDF did not embed the fonts, or only some of the glyphs in the fonts. In your screen capture, the boxes with X indicate that that particular glyph was not embedded into the PDF when the PDF was originally made.

First thing to try is what @Amal suggested above:

  • Go to Edit > Preflight
  • select the “PDF fixups” option and select “Embed missing fonts”
  • Click the “Analyze and fix” button to embed any unembedded fonts

From your screen capture, it appears the PDF uses Times New Roman or some variation of Times. That's good because Acrobat might be able to use the Times New Roman version on your computer to embed the fonts into the PDF.

If this procedure doesn't work, then go back to the source document and re-export the PDF the correct way, with the fonts embedded. Instructions on how to do that are here:

Hi Lancelotsjh,

We are sorry for the trouble. As described, font changed to boxes after save.

Is this a behavior with a particular PDF file or with all the PDFs? Please try to edit and save a different PDF file and check.

What is the version of the Adobe Acrobat DC installed? To check the version of the application please use the link: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/identify-product-version.html

A new version of Adobe Acrobat / Reader DC got released recently, version 19.21.20058. Please update the application to the new version. Go to Help > Check for Updates. For more information please use the link:https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/ReleaseNotesDC/index.html

If it still doesn't work, please try the following steps and check.

  • Go to Edit > Preflight
  • select the “PDF fixups” option and select “Embed missing fonts”
  • Click the “Analyze and fix” button to embed any unembedded fonts

After clicking Analyze and fix, you will be asked to save your new PDF document. Save it with the name
and location you like

Let us know how it goes

Regards

Amal
