"Source Sans Variable" has been installed and worked for Adobe Illustrator 2022, but cannot be read by Acrobat Pro DC for text editing.

Last question.

Is Acrobat Pro 2020 or Acrobat Pro DC 2022 the latest version by now?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out.

As mentioned above, the font is available on the machine. Could you please check if you have the editing rights for the font?

Also, let us know if the font is embedded in the PDF. To check that, open the PDF in Acrobat and go to File > Proerpties > Fonts.

Would it be possible to share the PDF sample with us here so we can have a look?

Thanks,

Meenakshi

I am having a similar issue.  When I checked my Adobe PDF document properties, I see Source Sans Pro as a listed document font.  I also have Source Sans Pro installed on my machine.  But I cannot edit the text using the font.  Do you know why this could be?

Thanks, Becky

I have now solved the issue.  It seems that Source Sans Pro was not properly installed in my machine's Font library.  I was able to go to Google and download the font and re-install using my Windows Font settings, and now it is working in Acrobat.

I don't think this can ever work. Variable fonts are a new type of font; support has been added to various apps and systems to work with them. But there is no such thing as a variable font in a PDF. So when you make a PDF, then variable font will be converted to something else: a simpler kind of font, a bitmap, something. So it is no longer the actual Source Sans Variable font. Even if Acrobat supported editing with the font, that's not the font you are trying to edit.

Since editing a PDF is a desperate, unreliable, last resort: avoid any workflow which uses Acrobat to edit text when you have a perfectly good original you can edit instead...

Just finished the test process.

  1. Uninstall the Acrobat Pro DC 2022
  2. Reinstall with Acrobat Pro 2020
  3. Try fonts “Source Sans Variable’ and “Source Sans 3” are worked on Adobe Illustrator 2022
  4. Try open the same PDF page and edit the text
  5. Error still happens

Please see attached screenshots for your reference.

Thanks you for your time.
