This is common when the font isn't embedded into the PDF at the time that the PDF is made from the source document.

Best solution: learn how to embed fonts into the PDF when it's exported from MS Word, PowerPoint, InDesign, or other authoring program. This prevents the problem from the start.

If all you have is the PDF at this point, next best solution is to force-embed the font with Acrobat's tools.

  • On the machine where the correct font (Arial) is available, open the PDF in Acrobat Pro.
  • Go to Acrobat's Preflight tools and use the Embed Fonts utility. You'll find detailed instructions at this post (follow and expand the green correct answer). https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/text-changes-to-special-symbols-with-saving-pdf-i...
  • Save the revised PDF (suggest that you give it a new name rather than overwrite the original file), and test it on the machine that's not showing the font correctly.

What are the Acrobat versions on the systems? What is the OS and version?
