Adobe is freezing and force closing while i try to print a pdf. I tried to run an update, it sat for 4 hours with no movement. Canceled the update, tried to repair instillation and it freezes then says 'cannot install while another program is installing'. restrarted the computer, verified i have no instillations happening, and its still telling me it cant repair, and its also telling me it cant update. I have to get these printed today, but it wont even let me uninstall adobe to try to reinstall it.

I see this is an old post and so I am here to raise the same issue but I am seeing this issue even after reinstalling from scratch.

Same. It started happening to me ~2 months ago. Very frustrating and unprofessional when it freezes and I'm working in front of customers, just trying to print something out...

I believe I might have fixed it. I right-clicked on the shortcut to Adobe Acrobat, then went to 'Properties'. Inside of there, I went to the 'Compatibility' tab and unchecked "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" It fixed my issue and updated the UI. I also made sure to delete printers I no longer have hooked up to my computer, that might've helped a bit in terms of speed opening up the printer menu.

Hi @Casey291664766j1z

Sorry to hear about the trouble caused.

Thank you for sharing all the troubleshooting steps performed.

Once

  1. Navigate to Acrobat>Edit>Preferences>Security (Enhanced)>disable "Protected Mode at Start-up", "Protected View" and "Enhanced Security">OK>close and reopen Acrobat

Note: these changes are only for testing purposes. Once tested, please change it back to the previous setting.

No luck? Then

  1. Please, Run this cleaner tool to remove the existing installer and application’s file traces:

https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/Labs/cleaner.html

Download the Acrobat installer from here:

https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-dc-downloads.html

If it still doesn't work, do let us know.

Thanks,

Akanchha

What does the first step test for exactly? I did it and it printed. Does it mean I keep those settings off? or is it an indication of another step that needs to be done? If so what?

Hi there

Hope you are doing well and thanks for reaching out.

As the application is working fine after you turned off the protected mode (For testing only), please go through the help page https://adobe.ly/4954lZr

Also, make sure you have the recent version 24.01.20615 installed. Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once.

Regards

Amal
