This is often the result of trying to edit a PDF file in which the fonts are either not embedded at all or not properly embedded and likely have missing or incorrect character mapping tables. (Of course, if you are editing text in a PDF file, the fonts for the text you are editing must be installed on your system even if they are embedded in your PDF file.)

Assuming that the fonts are not embedded in your PDF file and you have Acrobat Pro, use the fixup in Acrobat Preflight to embed missing fonts (again, this requires that the fonts be installed on your system). Save the resultant PDF file and then try doing your text edits.

That is the method Dov Isaacs refers to that embeds fonts into PDFs.

In order to help your further, can you give us a bit more info?

  1. What version of Acrobat are you using?
  2. Are you using Acrobat Pro, Acrobat Standard, or Acrobat Reader?
  3. On which platform, Mac or Windows?
  4. Are the missing fonts installed on your computer? They need to be there in order to become embedded into the PDF.
  5. "solutions in this link does not work!" Can you tell us what's not working, such as a warning message on your screen, or something else?

The instructions were written specifically for Acrobat V.20, so we know they work.

Do you have the PDF Standards tool panel visible?

Can you find the Preflight utility?

Ok.

Just so you know, we ACPs and MVPs are volunteers helping other users. We don't get paid for our work in the forums, unless there's an Adobe "badge" next to our name like the one on Dov's reply above.

We help others learn to master Adobe's software.

With that, here is some background info on using Acrobat's tools.

After watching the tutorial, you should be able to open Acrobat's PDF Standards tool, and then see the Preflight utility. Should look like this:

PDF Embed Fonts_2.png

Once in the Preflight utility, follow the instructions given above.
