Garbled Text on Downloaded version of PDF (Acrobat IX Standard)

I am having issues with a few PDF documents being garbled. When I see the document online it is clean and clear with no problems reading it. Once I download the document it is garbled on multiple pages throughout the document. I have tried to use the Adobe distiller and embed the fonts, however this has not worked. Are there any suggestions?

I have many colleagues who have this same issue using other PDF programs from Nitro, to Adobe DC.

This is generally a sign of a defective PDF file that has a combination of unembedded fonts and either missing or defective encoding vectors. What is creating the PDF file?

I am using Adobe Acrobat IX Standard. This is what I use in conjunction with Microsoft Word Save As PDF or Print using Adobe Print functions.

Why would I be able to read the online version?

What happens if you use Acrobat's Save as Adobe PDF instead of Microsoft's Save as PDF which is known to be somewhat problematic?

And what do you mean by “on-line version?” Where is the PDF file being displayed from?
