Has anyone found a solution for reader cannot open inside app container in protected mode?

I have Googled "acrobat reader cannot open inside an appcontainer in protected mode." I see that this problem has been going on since 2013. I can't tell you exactly when it happened but if I have Adobe Reader as my default program whenever I try to open a PDF the hourglass just spins and nothing opens. To get a PDF to open I have had to change the program to open in Microsoft Edge. To me this is not a work around I want to use. 

I am using Windows 10 pro and have installed the latest Adode Read program. I am running Malwarebites Pro and have tried disabling the Adode Reader protection. That did not work. I ran several virus scans with nothing there. I have not tried either "Open Reader with APP Container Disabled inside Protected Mode" or "Do not open Reader due to the App Container system incompatibility". I am a bit worried if I were to pick one of the above if I would be able to undo it.

Any suggestions to get this back to a default program would be greatly appreciated.
