I've been working on a document for days. I DID save it earlier this evening and hadn't made many changes afterwards, but my company sets my computer to auto shutdown every 7 days (although I swear it happens more than that) and when it started again, my comments are gone. I had some in the comments and some in text boxes right on the document. ALL GONE!! I need everything for a 10am meeting. Help!!

Ok, now I've searched the document for a specific word that I know was in one of my comments, and it comes up in the list saying "there was an error retrieving text". So it's in there somewhere!! I just need to know how to resolve that error.

Hi Kristine
Hope you are doing well and sorry for the trouble. As described you are unable to search for the text in the PDF and getting the error 'there was an error retrieving text'
Is this a behavior with a particular PDF file or with all the PDFs? Please try with a different PDF file and check.
Also please try to turn off the protected view (Windows only) and see if that works. Go to Edit > Preferences > Enhanced Security > Uncheck 'Enable Protected mode at startup' Turn off protected mode and uncheck 'Enhanced Security' > Click OK and reboot the computer once.
Note Please turn on the security after testing to avoid any security risk.
Also, if the PDF file is password protected please try removing the password security from the PDF file and check again as described in the similar discussion https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-reader/error-retreiving-text-while-using-advanced-search-and-...

Thanks Amal,
I tried the enhanced security stuff, but it still says "There was an error retrieving text" when I search "Attachments" and the comments are still not in the document. They were comments and text boxes inside the document itself. Not sure if that gives you any other ideas. It happened after a reboot, so I thought you might be right with the protected view stuff, but no luck. Plus, this is my company's computer and it has all previous version/version history stuff turned off and locked by admin, so I can't retrieve an older version.
This is NOT happening with any other documents, just this one., and it isn't password protected.
I ended up doing it all over again. Not as great as the first time, but it was my only choice. I'd still like to get the old comments back again, but it's no longer that time sensitive.
Thank you for your help!!

Hi there
We are sorry to hear that. Would you mind sharing how the actual document and the comments were created. As its the issue with a particular PDF file, there isn't much that we can do without looking at the file.
You may share the file with us for further investigation as described in the link - https://helpx.adobe.com/document-cloud/help/sharing-pdfs.html
