Hi, Anyone know what this means please: Plugin process wants to use confidential information stored in "v4.services.acrobat.com" in keychain?

Hi,

Got the above message today when exiting Safari browser. May have been coincidental.

Does anyone know what this plugin process is please? I updated to Acrobat DC two days ago and wasn't using acrobat when I got this message.

Steve,

I just spoke w/Adobe. This dialog box and its reference to information is only for and is restricted to our personal Acrobat accounts and is not for access to or by any outside party or parties. Adobe said that, in fact, we have to "Allow" this or we will not be able to view documents that are not stored on our machines or stored in the cloud.

Hope this helps,

~ JB III

Adobe don't look at it at all, this is a community forum, not a way to report bugs. Even if a reply happens to be from a member of staff. Starting a new discussion to make more noise is not appropriate. Has anyone actually reported it and got a case number?

I did not start a new discussion to "make more noise" and take offense at your comment. I (along with a lot of other people) have a problem that is not being addressed on a product we all pay good money for. This discussion had been "Answered" with an incorrect answer and people were saying that the solution was not working. The discussion had turned to privacy issues as opposed to the core problem of a product (Acrobat and/or use of Keychain) not functioning properly. This discussion is almost a year old and still no solution., so maybe some noise is what is needed, although again to point out, that was not my intention when creating a new discussion. I will try and contact Adobe (again) and see if banging my head against a wall yields another result (note: I have tried dealing with Adobe numerous times over the years without valuable results).

I have on occasion shared your frustration with reporting bugs. But we should be very clear that posting in the forum is not making contact for the purposes of bug reporting.

I think his/her intent was to ask the community for a possible workaround or solution and not simply to report a bug.

That said, this particular "bug" (for myself) involves Mac OS X and its security feature which prevents click/input from a Wacom tablet. Disconnecting the tablet and using a mouse allowed me to answer the dialog. It's a hassle but disconnecting that input device is the temporary workaround.

I hadn't thought before that it could be the Wacom tablet. I will try it to experiment but for the amount of times I get pdfs opening in a browser in a given day, changing the tablet to mouse and back, or clicking Deny 10-15 times is probably about the same amount of time (and annoyance). This only happens to me in Safari so I am considering moving to Firefox or Chrome.

That's an interesting insight. I found this discussion, clearly affects multiple apps: osx - OS X 10.11 unable to press "allow" on Keychain Access dialogs - Ask Different . This also mentions apps called MagicPrefs and SmoothMouse which makes the problem worse in other apps. Any software mouse support, perhaps, though I don't understand the details.

Maybe it affects anything other than a normal mouse (wonder if wireless is affected), ie, any software mouse modification or tablet. Has anyone had it happen in a browser other than Safari?

This "answer" is no answer, just a demand that customers live with a problem that Adobe created. It is pretty pathetic that Adobe issued such a sloppy update to Acrobat that requires what appears to be highly confidential access in the middle of accelerated warnings across the web about security issues, especially given that Adobe itself has hardly proven trustworthy re security. If this is indeed what it sounds like, it is as if Adobe is attempting to use services for which we have all paid to blackmail us into allowing them into places on the system they have no business accessing. Totally screwed up. If it isn't what it looks like, then Adobe - which is in the communications business - is a lousy communicator. I am not a happy customer, and it appears that I have a lot of company.

What an odd interpretation. Apple tell developers to store passwords in the keychain, for your safety. So Adobe did. It is a password which Adobe had, you can see this from the keychain name. why would anyone reject this unless you suspect someone else (not Adobe) is trying to hack these passwords.

I have this same issue.  Only DENY gets the message window to go away.  Admittedly, I've not done the Deny 17 times as remarked above.  Usually a couple of Deny's will get it to stop.  Still, aggravating.  The peculiar thing is that this item also gets frequent modifications, despite the denial of use by the plugin process.

Yeah, well, that's crap. I have hit "Always Allow" numerous times and at some point -- sometimes hours, sometimes days later -- the dialog box comes up again. I'm happy to hit "Deny" every time in hopes that it goes away, but right now it's an obnoxious pain in the ass.

Update:

Adobe originally promised me a phone call after the first chat session. Yeah I didn't think that would actually happen and it didn't. In fact they waited an extra week and tried to tell me it wasn't their issue, it was Keychain and Apple's problem. I told them not to close the tick that the issue was in fact an Acrobat issue. A little over week later they just up and closed the case. I chatted again and told them to reopen it. I have spoken to Apple and they have verified that Keychain is up to date, installed properly, and functioning as it is programmed to function. This is what I added to the support ticket upon it being reopened:

First of all this case was closed rather than await my reply. The case is not withdrawn, it is not resolved and it is NOT an issue with Keychain.

I have contacted Apple and they have verified that Keychain is up to date, not corrupted and functioning exactly as programed. (Apple Case ID: *********).

Acrobat DC is calling to v4.services.acrobat.com, an Adobe Acrobat file to which it does NOT need access to function. Proof of which is that if you deny access 17-18 times the file will open and the plugin for the browser works perfectly.

The only reason that I am able to surmise that the PluginProcess (also an Adobe program) wants to access this is to take note of the files that are being opened. The identical file if saved to the local hard drive will not garner such an error. This is ONLY when accessed via the PluginProcess that is used exclusively with the browsers.

The PluginProcess Error occurs in all browsers, Safari, Firefox and Chrome. This is NOT an issue with Keychain, it is reproducible on multiple devices, and multiple people that are totally unrelated (see the thread Adobe Support quoted on June 1, 2015 below).

Closing this case rather than troubleshooting it is not a solution. Please address the issue and provide a solution that does not require access to my confidential information. It is confidential for a reason.

I look forward to your resolution.

Lets see what they say to this.

PS - part of their original solution was to refer me to this forum thread... AFTER I made my original comments. Doh!

I have opened my keychain, and deleted the two apps that access this password. Seems to have solved it for now.

Is it possible this is related to "Captured Audience Platform" that Adobe chooses to implement for software use?.  When purchasing desktop version...one might still be partially captured via old plan?

Insult to injury begins as we spend all of OUR time and OUR money trying to solve problems that are related to Adobes infrastructure.  I am bothered by the lack of value Adobe places on my time.  It's easy to prey on those who have no IT background.  Somewhat like predatory lending.  The most vulnerable consumers are those who have no understand of the particular business line.  I CHOSE to participate.  Yet I didn't know the full cost of participating with Adobe...until now.

I've just started getting this popup recently - if I enter my password and choose Alway Allow, it still pops up again the next time I open safari. Same results for Deny. Yuck.

Same here.  Since upgrading to Safari 11 and High Sierra, not only do I get the popup window, it will NOT go away, even if I click deny.  And if you type any password into the box, even the correct password to access your keychain, it will essentially lock me out of my iCloud and connected accounts until I restart the computer.  In addition, not only will the Allow/Always Allow/Deny box not go away at all, I can't even read or save the pdf file that's been opened in Safari.

Come on Adobe, enough is enough with this BS!  NO CLOUD ACCESS.  For more than two years we've been saying this.  FIX IT NOW - you do NOT have rights to my keychain!

This is not at all what I'm experiencing. First, you need to use your computer's admin password, then click Always Allow, then the box will go away for a while. You won't get logged out of anything. Don't use your icloud or itunes account password - I don't know why you'd do this, unless they're the same as your admin password, which isn't a good idea anyway.

sduck409, that's the exact same box I'm seeing, but even when I tried typing my Mac admin password into the box (the one used to access my Keychains), it logs me out of all connected accounts, and the box pops right back up, regardless if I click Allow or Always Allow.  And if I click deny, the box comes right back.

Aside from all this, there is absolutely no reason Adobe should be asking for my password to access my keychains, especially when the document is in my web browser or on my local hard drive - not in the Adobe cloud, which I don't use.

BTW - a bit off topic but Adobe has successfully wiped out all my Lightroom settings in their latest "update" to my paid version of LR, by upgrading it to the newest subscription version and demoting my PAID version to trial - all without warning.  I am beginning the search for all new software to dump my Adobe s**t, Lightroom, Photoshop Elements and Acrobat Reader.
