Highlighting selected text disappears when mouse button is released

I was highlighting my document and all was fine. Then I went to highlight a section and the highlight wouldn't show up. I tried mulitple things. The best I could get was that it highlights while the mouse is pressed down and as soon as I let go it disappears. If I reopen the document in a read only setting it shows the highlight worked but when i go to editing the highlight is no visible.

With which version of Acrobat and on what operatng system are you seeing this?

@GrnStar Try this by turning the highlighting your sectons in preferences, Command K for the Mac, Control K for the PC
with the Comments section:

When I select a body of text, using the selection tool of Acrobat

Right-clicking allows me to do a few things:

But once I highlight my text, the pop-up box does open for me
