How can I copy using "Export as pdf" ?

  • July 25, 2017

I use a Max Pro, OS 10.11.6, and I have an icon "Adobe Acrobat Reader DC".  I try to copy a document using "Export as PDF".  I do get a file with the right name , but the result is a file of 896 bytes and a blank page.

I suspect that this problem has come up before, but I can only view about 10 or so responses.  So maybe what I need is to learn how to search the forums.  I have clicked on "Search forums only", but nothing is found.

That worked. It doesn't look like you're using Adobe Reader, though...

Reply text:  If there's a 123 icon, I can't see it.  There is picture icon to the right of the @ sign.  If I click on it, I see a window that has a number of options inside -- [your content,  your communities, view your profile, etc.]  I don't see  how to use any of those options, so I'll just try to add the screen shot below.

You CANNOT send us an email. You CANNOT email us a screen shot. What you have to do is RETURN TO THE FORUM (here's the link How can I copy using "Export as pdf" ?  ) and type a reply, using the picture icon to add your screen shot. The picture icon looks like, I don't know what, but it's to the right of the 1 2 3 icon.

There is no screen shot unfortunately, not for us. You need to return to the forum to add it. Please do, I think you are using a web browser, not Acrobat Reader, but the picture will tell.

I believe you, but I don’t understand -when I look in my email sent file, the text is there together with the screen shot. I’ll try to do two things. I will (try) to resend text plus screenshot, also just the screenshot itself. Aside: I have, and think I use, Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.

Please don't do that. It's not going to work!

It will only work if you attach the screenshot from the forums directly.

Alternatively, upload it to a website like imgur.com and post the link to it here.

There is no "as". Export PDF, not Export As PDF.

I hope that the screen shot, appended below, can help explain the situation. I get monthly statements from TD Ameritrade. The first page of the latest statement is shown in the screenshot where my name and address appear, There’s also an Ameritrade logo on the same part of the screenshot. I can see, on my monitor, the entire monthly statement. It’s in trying to copy that to my computer that the problem shows up. My attempt is as follows: I click on “Export as PDF”, which you can see in the menu to the left of the statement. When I do, a window opens, inviting to give a name to the (hoped for) copy I can store on my computer. When I hit return I do get a file with the name I’ve chosen. But, the length of that file is only 896 bytes. and the page is entirely blank. So I have not copied the statement.

As an aside, I can also choose the “Save As” which is in the same menu. With that choice I can try to copy the statement using HTML. That leads to the same result.

I am clearly taking the wrong path. I hope that I can learn the right one.

From your post I'm not entirely sure what yo are trying to do.

However, Export PDF is generally used to take a PDF and export into a different type of file, for example a Word document etc.

It is something that is available in Adobe Acrobat Pro DC, but also for Adobe Acrobat Reader DC users through subscription:  Export PDF to Word or Excel online | Adobe Export PDF

Can you provide a bit more information on exactly what it is you are trying to do?

If you are trying to create a copy of an existing PDF file, consider using the operating system's own copy/duplicate ability:

  • On Mac: Right-click file and select Duplicate
  • On Win: Right-click file and select Copy, then right-click and select Paste.
