How can I open my pdf files in different tabs, rather than in different windows?

Hello, 

I am using an Adobe Acrobat XI Pro (11.0.23) on Windows 10. It is so annoying that every file is opened in a new window. Is it possible to open new files in new tabs, as in Acrobat Reader?

You cannot. The tabbed interface did not exist yet.

But, when I check for updates, it shows no updates are available! How can I update it?

Use Acrobat DC or Acrobat 2020.

XI will only show updates for its own version. To go beyond XI, you either have to upgrade to the Acrobat DC subscription model or hunt down standalone versions of Acrobat 2020 (certain retailers including Adobe still sell it, but for how much longer is unknown). That being said, there's no upgrade pricing for something as old as XI; You would be looking at full purchase price for a standalone, or the DC subscription fee.

So, if that is not an option for you, you will have to accept you cannot do tabbed windows.
