How can I get rid of the horrible 'AI Assisitant' ? I hate, hate, hate, hate eeverything about it. I hate the popups that constantly get in my way every time I open a new PDF, I hate the way it dramatically slows down the application every time I want to just search for something, and I hate that way that it doesn't work at all or provide any value of any form. I just want it gone and never, ever, ever, ever, under any circumstances want it to be there getting in the way of every simple thing I want to do. Please, please, please, please: how can I make it just go away? I just want to open and look at a PDF for heavens sake, I don't need any of this AI nonsense.

Hi @Edwin38637954oaar,
You can follow the suggestions from this help page: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/disable-generative-ai.html
This can be done from the App Preferences:
Let us know if you have further questions.

Hamberger Icon is the three horizontal lines... click on that and not the word menu next to it. There you will find the DISABLE NEW ACROBAT READER which you will need to click on to turn off all the AI and go back to the version that is their best version... the one without AI. Generative AI just turns off one part of the AI system.

What the Hell is a hamburger icon?

Hi barry_8130,
Thank you for reaching out.
The three horizontal lines at the top left corner of the New Acrobat window are called the hamburger icon. The icon opens the menu options. Please check the screenshot below:
Let us know if you need any help.
Thanks,

I agree wholeheartedly! The AI assistant does absolutely nothing for editors. I have asked for it to search and replace, to find spelling errors, and to do other mechanical chores and it just slows things down and comes back with innane, irrelevant responses, whilst the pop-ups could drive Mother Teresa bonkers.
Help!

I'm the first to have writeen don't want it/don't need it/want it gone... and I have now just reviewed all the comments and responsese. My earlier additional comment re "AI =" seems to bode true in all respects here.
As reported earlier, accessiing preferences from the "hamburger" (and it had to be someone who survives on junk food that came up with that association to the tripple bars) and turning off the generative AI does ABSOLUTELY NOTHIING!
Yep I am yelling here.
I hope I am long retired (and perhaps have left this earth) by the time the gneration who relies on AI is running the world. It's scary enough as it is!

Clearly they are forcing this Generative AI on us becasue they want their programmes to learn from our hard work and then appropriate it and then sell it back to us. Disgusting! And it is annoying and unhelpful to boot. I don't want this forced upon me Adobe. I'm just trying to read a document and the moment and you have made this impossible.

Amen to that. Adobe, just leave us alone with your "helping."

AI Assistant is here. Great.
Now, how do we turn it off?

If it had any Intelligence at all, the first thing it would do is turn itself off.

I sure do love the way you worded your question. I feel the same way. Why do they do this to us without our permission. I'm having so much trouble using Adobe reader since the AI assistant was added.

Hi, just some feedback if possible? I don't want to turn off the AI assistant. I've had no cause to use it.
What I do want it to move the annoying Ask AI Assistant "splash" that covers up the entire bottom of the page, so I cannot use a horizontal scroll bar. There's already an AI button at the top. Can you help or remove that feature?
Apologies if this is the incorrect forum for posting it. There's apparently no help menu in Acrobat and the chatbot has no idea what I mean.

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your feedback, @Paui37083130i9gv.
You may click on the three dots on the right-hand side of this bar and choose Hide.
Let's know how it works at your end.

Hi Tariq, that does work - but it requires doing this on each document. For me, part of good UI is that something doesn't get in the way but is there if you need it. The current assistant location is akin to a "nag screen" and discourages me from using it. Hope any feedback will be considered by Adobe.

If this is in the Acrobat desktop app, you can disable this by unchecking "Enable generate AI feature in Acrobat" as Tariq mentioned in the post marked as correct answer. Do you still see this bar, after unchecking this preference ?

Prava: it seems like either you have not read posts here and/or tried out the Acrobat reader desktop app yourself. Disabling the "Unchecking the generative AI feature in Acrobat" feature in preferences has no affect on the AI Assistant button on the menu bar (top right) or the 'Ask AI Assistant' bar at the bottom of the screen when the program opens. The ONLY way to make this go away is to 'Disable New Acrobat Reader'.

Thank you for your patience on this issue. With the latest release (https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/ReleaseNotesDC/continuous/dccontinuousdec2024.htm...) we have added a preference under Preferences -> Generative AI to disable showing of the Gen AI query bar on the document. The preference is "Show AI query bar on document". Uncheck the preference & restart Acrobat and you shouldn't see the query bar on the document. Please update to the latest version and try this out. Do continue to share your feedback on this.

But the point is why put the dam thing in & why have it activated by default Adobe have obviously got the customer base wrong again, many use the products for work & pay for the privilage surely WE should be listened to as for year the havent the bisggest mistake & the increase in issues was once this stuoidy of "The Cloud" took when i was working I was the only one that worked "local" all my files data was on a local disk & backed up on my back up, guess what after Microsofts many failures shutting the company down many times (office 365!! etc) with the whole comapnyy being Cloudbased. I was the only one that could still work, & the whole company chnged to follw my work method. result No onger held ransom, Adobe products are good but they need to listen to customers, we want robust programs that work & many times the "flash embellishments" are superfolous to requirement Yous etc digital & commercial proffessional.

Thank you. So far so good. I think as an earlier point said, I'm happy to try AI features - but they shouldn't get in the way of usability. It's like "Accept Cookies" splash screens on a webpage - they all seem to have been bolted on at the last moment. Thanks for listening.

I would like to add to the feedback that this AI assistant, that no one seems to have asked for, but is being forced on us, on a convuluted opt-out basis, is just like MS's disatrous paper clip icon, which is one of the most hated "developments" ever.

I don't know about others, but I don't need ANYthing in my workflow. I need to look at pdfs with my human eyes. That's it. I don't need stuff popping up. I don't need some AI to tell me what it's programmed to wrongly think I want. I am capable of thought. I am capable of clicking a command. I do not need the computer to tell me what to do. I will tell the computer what to do. Why is that so difficult for Adobe to understand?
Yes, I do need the 'edit pdf' command. Yes, I do need the 'fill and sign' command. Let me click the button when I need that button clicked. Humans > AI.
