How do i print double sided from adobe reader on my mac

I wanted to print double sided from adobe reader on my mac it would not give me the option to print directly from a down loaded file with an email

I tried to print another document infact an email page it gave me double sided option why can't i print from adobe reader ?

Hi dianah71252428,

Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat let you print double-sided if your printer supports that feature. The printer driver controls the options, not Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader. Check your printer documentation to see what features your printer supports. (Double-sided printing is also called duplex, back to back, front and back, or two-sided printing.)

This is an Adobe Reader issue because other programs do not have these issues with the same printer.

- When printing multiple copies of 2-sided odd-numbered pdf documents, every other copy has the first page on the back of the last copy of the previous page.

Example: For a 5-paged document, it prints like 1-2, 3-4, 5-1, 2-3, 4-5.

- When printing items, sometimes letters and words change to random symbols like boxes, etc.

- When printing color, items print extremely slowly. (This does not happen with the same document in another program)

Is there something like a patch that can be released to solve these issues?

It's difficult to follow your message as this is a thread about not being able to print double sided and your problem is different.

I would create a new thread for this.

Please sate your OS and version and your printer and driver version.

On my printers (Canon production printer, HP Pagewide printer) and with Windows 7 and 10, printing works fine in all apps, including Acrobat.

My experience shows that most of the problems arise from the printer driver. This has nothing to do with other applications, as Adobe seams to use the OS more consistently. This is quite important when printing in a professional environment. However, most of the consumer printers lack in quality with the printer driver implementation.

Thank you for your response.

The first problem does have to do with double-sided printing though you are correct. I did create another thread but did not receive a response after over a month....

We use a mix of Mac OS and Windows 7 and 10. All of the forementioned have the first problem of printing odd paged documents incorrectly when printing more than one copy. This problem does not occur on any other programs other than Acrobat Reader. We use HP Officejet Pro x576dw.

You cannot talk to Adobe's tech department about free software even if you have CC. That's up to date anyway. So, that last message. What happens when you choose Yes?

It gives me this box so FINALLY I can print 2-sided!

It definitely solved the problem, but it's anything but user-intuitive to have to go through so much guesswork to get there.

I am also having this same issue.  I cannot print double sided on my mac.  Additionally, I am getting little boxes on top of the text on some pages.  I updated everything (Adobe Reader is up to date, my HP printer is all up to date).  Its very frustrating.  I see there has not been an answer to this issue yet.  :-(

Could you please confirm the version of Acrobat Reader installed on the machine?

Creative Cloud doesn't include Acrobat Reader at all. It does include Acrobat Pro. Please check exactly what you are running as updates often go wrong and it often causes problems. Please post the screen shots you CANNOT email them.


I have Acrobat Reader 2015 Release|version 2015.020.20042. I'm not seeing any updates available. I also have Creative Cloud, with latest updates.

Here is a screen shot of the Acrobat Reader print dialogue for a 2 page PDF with no choice to print 2-sided:

The printer drop down menu doesn't have any additional options other than my one printer.

And here is the print dialogue box when opening the PDF in Preview (2-sided option is there):

I have the same problem.  I have just installed a new printer that will print double-sided from other applications, but not from Reader.  I have hunted through the Adobe Help and all I can find was a page that described printer dialog boxes that look nothing like mine.  The answer above is NOT CORRECT.  It is flippant gibberish.

I find this response quite annoying. I have a PC and print double sided from it regularly...so no problems with the printer...I also have Windows 10 and print double sided regularly...so no problems with Windows 10,  I also have some older pdf files...and can print them out double sided no problems...the only time I can't print double sided is from new pdf's that I have downloaded since installing Adobe Reader DC so please don't suggest that it is the printer or anything else but Adobe Reader DC because double sided printing works for me in all other situations.  There is no option for selecting double sided printing when opening a pdf downloaded us Adobe Reader DC which suggests that the problem is with the Adobe Reader DC print page.

I hope you can assist without suggesting that it is the printer or anything else.

Thanks Michele, I also found that answer rather pat and annoying too as I have the very same problem:

Dear Aadesh,

This is not true.

I have changed nothing but "upgraded" my Adobe Acrobat and now I can't print on both sides of the paper.

Printer hasn't changed, computer hasn't changed, only thing that has changed is Adobe.

You see that others are having this problem only in Acrobat. You can keep saying its not Adobe, but the facts say differently.

Like Dianah the option doesn't even exist any more in Acrobat.

Please Adobe fix your mistake.
