Do you have the password to open the PDF? Or have you gotten past the password and now want to save it without password protection?

Are you the creator of the form? If so, only you know the password, we don't.

If you/re not the creator, you'd have to get the permission of the PDF form poster and get them to unlock it.

Hi Rosemarys,

Apologies for the delay in response, I hope you would be able to fix it by now.

If the problem still persists and you want to remove the password protection from the PDF, we need some more information to better understand the situation.

  • Do you have Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat DC?
  • What is the version of the application?
  • Do you have the password to open the document?

If you have Acrobat Reader, you can not remove the password from the file as its a free service with limited functionality. However, if you have Adobe Acrobat DC and you have the password to open the document you can remove the password from the file. You can try the following steps:

Let us know how this works for you.

Regards,

Amal

Amal,

I am trying your recommended method to remove password protection from a .pdf. I DO have the password, and the .pdf is unlocked.  When I go to TOOLS>Protect . . . all I can find at Protect is the option to 'add,' and then Adobe DC hangs up!! Did they change where to change password protection in Adobe DC?? This is way too confusing.

thanks,

Dr. J.

If Security is set to Off, then what password are you referring to, exactly?
