How do I turn off "All tools" panel when doc opens?

It's really annoying that I have to close the "All Tools" panel on the left hand side every time I open a document, as it takes up a lot of screen space. Surely there's a way to turn off this panel so it doesn't automatically show itself each time a document is opened?!
