Question

How go I get videos to play directly in the PDF instead of popping up in Windows Media Player?

I am using Adobe Acrobat Pro DC to add videos into PDF. I went to Tools -> Rich Media -> Add Video and went through the steps to open reference link and adding rectangle to click video. However, the video pops up in Windows Media Player rather than directly playing on the PDF document page. How can I fix this? It must be compatible for viewers who have lower PDF versions such as Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.

Hello Nicoleh,

We're sorry for the trouble you had, it seems that the added video in the PDF file is linked to an external service that is Windows Media player and this is the reason, it's opening the player to play the video.

Please navigate to Acrobat's Preferences from Edit menu in Acrobat>Preferences>Multimedia(Legacy)>and change the Preferred media Player.

You may choose 'Adobe Flash Player' or 'Windows Built-In Player'** only for Windows. Click OK>Restart the application and check.

You may also refer to the following help articles Playing video, audio, and multimedia formats in PDFs, Adobe Acrobat

Add audio, video, and interactive objects to PDFs in Adobe Acrobat

Note: Flash Player is needed on the machine to play the video in the PDF file. To get the Flash player, you can use the URL Adobe Flash Player needed for Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Acrobat Reader

let us know how it goes and share your observation.

Thanks,

Anand Sri.
