Acrobat seamlessly converts your paper documents to editable PDFs. Our OCR (Optical Character Recognition) converts the document into editable PDF and text with correctly recognized fonts in the document.

I have scanned hundreds of pages and the their images can not be altered for historic reasons. However, some of the original pages contain misspellings of things we want to find in a search, such as names. Is there any way to insert the the correct spelling so a search would find the page?

Hi There,

Thanks for reaching out. As described above, you want to edit the text in the scanned document, correct?

Acrobat can easily turn your scanned documents into editable PDFs. When you open a scanned document for editing, Acrobat automatically runs OCR (optical character recognition) in the background and converts the document into editable image and text with correctly recognized fonts in the document.

Please try the steps below and check if that works for you

  • Open the scanned PDF file in Acrobat.
  • Choose Tools > Edit PDF.
  • Click the text element you want to edit and start typing. New text matches the look of the original fonts in your scanned image.
  • Choose File > Save As and type a new name for your editable document.
