Question

How to embed a pdf into another pdf and for it to be accessible by anyone.

I am trying to add various pdfs to one main pdf in the form of links, or at worst as an icon.  I am using Adobe Acrobat Pro DC and whatever I try does not work.  Having run out of ideas any help would be most appreciated.

Most people don't use Acrobat Reader. And most non-Adobe apps will do nothing with PDF as attachment. So either don't use attachments, or require and demand your users use Acrobat Reader (on Windows or Mac, of course, won't work on a phone or tablet even with Adobe software). Your power to demand this depends on your relationship with the end users, and how much they want to use this file.

Important thing to realise, and many people do not: it is not enough to have Reader just installed. Must actually open with Reader, not a browser, email app or anything else.

Thank you - just what I thought, although not very good.  Can you suggest a way of sharing files within a pdf?

Hi @Stuart26133734wm8p

We are sorry to hear that. Please go through the help pages listed below and see if that works.

Thank you Amal for sharing.  Again I have tried everything but cannot seem to get it to work.  If I create a document and add a second document as an Attachment in the pdf, then link to it, when I click on the link it works and does precisely what I have asked, but when I share with a colleague nothing happens when they click on the link.  Probably not strange but not what I need.  I was hoping to create a master pdf with links to other pdfs.  I was sure that it was possible but it is looking unlikely, unless you can help 🙂

Hi @Stuart26133734wm8p

We are sorry to hear that.

Would you mind sharing the version of the Acrobat DC you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the recent version 22.2.20212 Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once.

Also please share a small video recording of the steps you are doing, so that we can try to replicate the issue on our end and check.
