Hi,
I've just upgraded to Acrobat Pro.
I was hoping this would fix the issue off every single PDF 're-opening' the tool palletes at the sides. It's infuriating.
The setting to keep tool setting is now not present in the preferences (it was there years ago).
Can anyone tell me if this is now possible or not? I have tthe latest 2024 version installed.
I don't want to have to press button or shortcuts with ever file I open to 'read'.
Many Thanks,
Stu

This is a setting of the files you're opening. If their Initial View setting is to display the Bookmarks panel, Acrobat will show it. You can't override it, but you can edit this setting on a file-by-file basis.

Thanks.
@ Adobe - It's insane that we could do this previously with older verisions and even free versions of the software.
I open and close hundreds of drawing files thoughout the week. Why on earth can we not control how the software looks. The rare time I want the tools, i'll open the panel.

Hi @stuart_3004 see if enabling below settings of Naivigation Tab from Document properties would work. You can open this using Ctrl+D/Cmd+D in Win/Mac.

I second Stuart"s sentiment, many of us are forced into settings, setup by admins through the creative cloud desktop and now have NO control about our user experience. Are you listening developers and admins? Here's the problems:
1 Default program view controls should not be on a per file basis. (How would you like it if every time you got in your car and turned on the radio, the volume went to 100% because you hadn't set the default volume for each radio station or song?)
2 I recognize that there needs to be over-rides for things like this, but the user experience needs to be paramount (unless you don't care about that?). So the software environment should set the default behavior not the file being opened. For corporate setup types - how about an easily found "restore settings to admin defaults" button for the admins and users that messed up their settings? (that way the users that know what they're doing and the admins that have to support the users that don't know which side of the keyboard is up can both be happy)
3 User "pleebs" like us are being forced to do time wasting repetitive tasks because a VIEW setting is being locked down, hidden or otherwise disabled from the individual that has to use it on a daily basis.
Sorry for the snarky post but - come on - really?? There are numerous threads on here (basically about the same type of issue - going back YEARS) that the default answer is pretty much: set the default view behaviour in each file <OR> in the menu change a setting that you don't have access to because your IT department set it up for you.

AND THEREIN LIES THE PROBLEM!
Did you not read my post at all?
I'm not looking for a work around (which what has been provided is not!), I want a solution to the ROOT problem - which is:
YOU CAN NOT CONTROL DEFAULT PROGRAM BEHAVIOR!
The emphasis here is on the word default, it's NOT a default if you have to change it every time is it?
