Question

How to retain tag language settings when merging PDFs

Windows 10, Acrobat Pro ... We separated a 722-page manual into separate PDFs for the main body and individual appendixes, and tagged them separately. Now need to combine back into a single PDF. Many appendixes have language settings on tags, e.g., Spanish, Chinese, Korean...  And not just a few tags as words in English and the other languages are intermingled. Literally thousands of tag language settings. When combining the files the language settings are lost from all tags except the original file into which the others are being merged.  Happens when I use Combine Files in Acrobat from Windows Explorer. Help!!!  Thanks in advance.

PDF 1.7 only supports one language tag per document.

PDF 2.0 supports a language tag for each page of a document, many of us are waiting for its advent...

Not talking about the document properties language setting, talking about language setting on individual tags.

Meant to add it also happens when I combine PDFs by dropping files from Explorer into the thumbnails panel of a PDF, or by dropping pages from one PDF into another.

Hi,

Have you tested it using a portfolio?

Create and customize PDF Portfolios (adobe.com)

Thanks for the suggestion.  The portfolio does keep the language tags intact. But the PDFs appear to still act like separate files. I need the files to be combined into one document with one set of bookmarks. I'm not familiar with working with portfolios, is there a way to then combine the portfolio files into a single PDF?
