in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

Hi @phcva

Thank you for raising this important question.

Adobe Acrobat does not scan or access files in your local folders—such as Documents, Desktop, or Downloads—without your explicit action. However, depending on your operating system’s permissions and Acrobat’s features (like recent files, Home view, or cloud sync), it may appear to access or list files you’ve interacted with recently.

Your Privacy and Control

Adobe takes user privacy seriously. Acrobat does not upload, index, or analyze your local files unless you:

  • Open them directly in the app

  • Choose to upload them to Adobe cloud services (like Adobe Cloud storage or Fill & Sign)

  • Enable auto-save or share features

How You Can Limit Access

If you’re looking to limit folder access at the OS level:

  • On macOS, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Files and Folders, and uncheck Acrobat’s access to folders like Documents or Desktop.

  • On Windows, Acrobat uses the system file dialog and does not access folders in the background. You can restrict its file visibility by adjusting user permissions or using a Standard (non-admin) account.

Additionally, if you’re concerned about Adobe cloud connectivity, you can sign out of Document Cloud features or disable Adobe Acrobat Cloud storage integration in preferences under General > Online Storage.
