I can tell you NOBODY uses PDF for the direct deliverable in an email. The reason is simple: most mail apps don't show a PDF attachment at all. You need HTML format mail, and a specialist editor for creating it. One that people talk about, but I never used it, is mailchimp.

Mac mail uses no Adobe tech, and treats PDF as dead pictures. Only one page PDFs show.

Nevertheless I get lots of email marketing campaings with buttons that are clickable and redirect me to a webpage. If they succeed so should I. I'm completely new with Adobe. My assumption is I'm missing something. Can't be that hard

What application/plugin is used to view the file in the mail app?

I opened Mail preferences to see if there were any plugins but the tab manage plugins isn’t there. So I don’t know the answer to your question, sorry
