I need my Bookmarks to default to "Zoom level: Custom".

Guest

Can someone please tell me how to get my Acrobat to work like it used to? When I create a bookmark I aboslutely need that bookmark to reference the exact area of my screen I am seeing. Right now it defaults to this UNUSABLE setting of "Zoom level: Inherit Zoom" and I need it to go back the way it was. Can anyone help me?

Either I have done something stupid I cannot undo, or one of the last updates that Adobe forced upon me has changed the way my bookmark tool works and it has made this program UNUSABLE for me. That sounds like an exageration but I swear it is not. I use large sized drawings in acrobat all day long. When I click a bookmark to go to a current detail or plan view or area of a drawing, it is not rembering the zoom level and area of my screen and it MUST.

What I'm left with is a convoluted piece of xxxx process where I have to create the damn bookmarks and then go back and edit EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM to be the area of the page I need to see! This is where I either find the setting to switch this back, or have no choice to cancel this dumb subscription and look for another program (I'm sure Adobe will be crushed).

Everything I see online tells me how to change my bookmarks to be exaclty what I don't want. I guess I need the exact opposite of everyone else in the world? How does eveyrone else use their large format drawings in acobat?

It depends on your zoom level at the moment you create the bookmark. If it happens to be 100% the bookmark will use the "Actual Size" option. If you're viewing the full page it will be "Fit Page", etc. If it's a non-standard zoom level it should default to "Custom".

Thank you @try67  . I've tested what you say and I wish my install was working like that. Unfortunately, regardless of zoom level or where I am on a page, every bookmark I create comes in as Zoom level: Inherit Zoom. If there is a setting in preferences somewhere, or something I have corrupted and can fix somehow, I would dearly love to know it. Funnym but it seems like everyone else on the internet specifically wants their machines to work just like mine, and I'm trying to get the opposite.

I'm using a somewhat older version of Acrobat. Maybe someone decided to change how it works in the newer versions...

I am having the same issue as JeanChile.  The inherit zoom is inheriting from the preferences or the properties, it is not inheriting from when the book mark was set.  I also work in large format technical drawings and need to have a custom zoom bookmark as to not have to try and hunt for the area needed to be focused on.  Not only is it about the amount of zoom but also the location on the drawing that is being zoomed in on.

As I type I keep experimenting.  I think the solution at the moment is under:

BookMark menu>  Set Default Bookmark Zoom level> Current Page

So far its working.  If I set a zoom to a section of the drawing it is keeping the zoom amount with position and not messing up the other bookmarks.

Road test it and see how it works out.

The Inherit Zoom is not inheriting from the book mark as it was set, it is inheriting from the last action(?) zoom.  For example if I set a book mark to a zoom of 60% any bookmark with an Inherit Zoom will keep the 60% zoom until a bookmark with a different instruction is clicked, say Fit Page.  If a Fit Page bookmark is clicked at that point if an Inherit Zoom book mark is clicked then it will display as Fit Page.  Or if a Fit Width bookmark is clicked then all of the inherit zoom will display as Fit Width.

For those of us who use a variety of zoom types on their bookmarks set the default zoom level to current page, NOT Inherit Zoom. Check the properties on each bookmark to ensure the setting you want is there.

Hope this helps

Not quite. Inherit Zoom means the current zoom setting is not changed when the link is clicked.

So if the user first clicked on a link that has a Fit Page command, that will be kept when they click the Inherit Zoom one, but if after they clicked on it they zoomed in (manually) to another zoom level, that level will remain.

Yes, many people wanted what you don't want, and Adobe responded after a few years. HOWEVER, they say there is a new option to select what zoom you want by default.

Yes, I think that's what @JR Boulay was showing above. I have to admit, that I forgot to mention that I've played around with that setting in his screenshot, and nothing actually changes. The actions say "Actual Size" (see below) but clicking any bookmark still zooms me out to the entire 30" x 42" drawing that I'm trying to look at (on my laptop screen and iPad). Anything else I can try?

Also, the setting you need is "Current page", which is poorly named because it is "Current view".

I am running Acrobat DC (20.013.20074)

and I did the patch below

AcrobatDCUpd2001220048.msp

It is still occuring with the inherit zoom.  I don't want the inherit zoom and have reset my current document's book marks to their appropriate settings for my application: Either fit page or a 'cutsom zoom' which Ive done with the 'current page' setting.

As I said, you need "Current page". Not "inherit zoom".

(What is Inherit zoom for? The typical document. The user resizes the window and/or zooms to fit their screen, the document, their eyesight, and the other apps they want open. They click any other kind of bookmark, and it not only goes to the page, it changes the zoom. Result: fury. Yes, I quite understand why you want it differently)

Thank you @JR Boulay , that was it. I didn't notice that automatic updates had been turned off.

Updating Acrobat made the setting you referenced earlier, actually do something. Thus, all my issues are resolved.

Thank you to all that took the time to respond and help!
