Is ACROBAT PRO XI compatible with Windows 10 ver 20H2

Participant ,

CAN you tell me if ACROBAT PRO XI is compatible with the current Windows 10 version 20H2?

WHY?

I am highly frustrated by many BASIC functions NOT working in Acrobat Pro DC.  My search has shown that I am NOT the only Acro user afflicted by those issues.   Adobe Support Professionals have NOT provided effective solutions to other users.  I think reverting back to an old FUNCTIONAL Acrobat version is the only solution.

THE SOLUTION that fixed all issues with my Acrobat Pro DC was provided by Dov Isaacs with my deepest appreciation.

I had installed Adobe Reader DC along with Acrobat Pro DC.   That was the problem.  Reader DC broke Acrobat Pro DC.

After uninstalling Reader DC with AcroCleaner tool and doing a repair installation of Acro Pro DC, Acro Pro DC now works exactly as it should.  Removing Reader DC cleared up all issues.

The key is to use the AcroCleaner tool (for DC versions) to uninstall Reader DC in order to thoroughly remove all traces of it from Windows 10.  The 'normal' uninstallation method using Windows Add & Remove Programs was insufficient.

Official Adobe product support for Acrobat 11 ended prior to the release of Windows 20 20H2 and as such, Acrobat 11 was never tested under Windows 10 20H2 and Adobe does not officially support running under such an environment. However, knowing what I do about both products, you will likely be able to install and run Acrobat Pro 11 in that environment.

That having been said, at Adobe we are not aware of what you describe as many BASIC functions not working in Acrobat Pro DC regardless of whether they worked in Acrobat Pro 11 or not. Acrobat Pro DC is at least as functional as Acrobat Pro 11. In fact, there is much more functionality in Acrobat Pro DC and many “issues” in Acrobat Pro 11 were remedied in Acrobat Pro DC. Perhaps if you enumerated what the difficulties you are finding are, we can assist you with use of Acrobat Pro DC.

Dear Mr. Isaacs:   THANK YOU VERY MUCH for the FIRST intelligent reply from an Adobe professional!

My previous posts identified and explained the many non-functioning basic features in my latest version of Acro Pro DC released in Dec 2020.   All replies from Adobe professionals on those issues offered worthless solutions or nonsensical workarounds,   I am considering the installation of Acro Pro XI OUT OF DESPERATION even though I know Adobe support ended with one of the early builds / versions of W10.   MAYBE YOU CAN HELP, PLEASE!

I shall cut & paste my first post seeking help on the bugs I am experiencing with current Acro Pro DC, as follows:

As of 01/03/21, many basic functions of Acrobat Pro DC do not work, such as:

  1.  Add Image
  2.  Highlight Text
  3.  Underline Text
  4.  Resize Text Boxes

Here are some relevant facts pertaining to my Acrobat installation.

  • I am using an early 2019 workstation PC with Windows 10 Pro build 2004 x64 and Acrobat Pro DC v2020.013.20074
  • Most of my Acrobat issues began in early December after the last Acrobat update.  I have not installed or uninstalled any application software in several months.  I have only installed Windows updates.
  • I tried 'Repair Installation'.  That did not help.  I uninstalled & reinstalled Acrobat Pro DC.  That did not work.  Then I did a second uninstallation using the Acrobat Clean-Up Tool and reinstallation.  That did nothing.
  • I used every major version of Acrobat since 2001 -- versions 5, 7, 8, 9, X, & XI.  I am an experienced Acrobat user and never encountered as many issues as I have with current Acrobat Pro DC.

Here are the details associated with each issue listed above.

Add Image -- Acrobat provides several ways to add an image.  Each way fails in the same manner.   When I click Add Image; the window to browse for image pops up; I select an image (jpeg or png were tried), and the image appears in Acrobat as a 'thumbnail' with a cursor arrow in its upper lefthand corner.  I can move the image to where I want to place it in the PDF but when I 'mouse click' to place the image, Acrobat greys out, 'Not Responding' appears in the title bar above the Main Menu, the ESC key fails to end unresponsive mode, and I must use Windows Task Manager to force close Acrobat.   THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH ACROBAT PRO DC FOR OVER A YEAR (the other issues appeared in December 2020).

Highlight Text & Underline Text tools just do nothing.  Prior to December 2020, both tools worked fine.

Resize Text Box will not work.  When I click on ADD TEXT, the cursor allows me to place the text box in the PDF at my desired location.  BUT the text box is always the SAME size.  When I highlight the text box, the 'handles' appear but will not allow me to resize the text box.  Also, I cannot move the text box.

I am highly frustrated by those BASIC functions NOT working in Acro Pro DC.  My search has shown that I am NOT the only Acro user afflicted by those issues.   Adobe Support Professionals have NOT provided effective solutions to other users.

Well, sir, that's the story of my Acro Pro DC hellish nightmare.  That's why I am ready to revert back to Acro Pro XI or maybe try Acrobat Pro 2020 (perpetual license).   CAN YOU HELP?

Again thank you ... and Happy New Year, Preston

Preston,

It is getting late here on the Left Coast of the US. I will try to research and address your issues starting tomorrow. I may actually contact you via e-mail (assuming the e-mail address associated with your AdobeID is correct); watch your e-mail for responses.

One thing though very quickly. Regardless of what anyone else from Adobe may tell you, you should never, repeat never have both Acrobat Pro and Acrobat Reader of either the same or different versions concurrently installed on the same system. That is looking for severe problems!

Good night!

MR ISSACS -- THANK YOU AGAIN.  I do have Adobe Reader DC installed with Acro Pro DC.   I installed Reader so that way I can see what my non-Acrobat customers will see in Reader after I send my PDF.  I will uninstall Reader DC and see if that helps.

HOW SHOULD I UNINSTALL READER?   With Acrobat Cleaner tool?   OR uninstall BOTH Reader & Pro DC with cleaner tool ... and then reinstall Pro DC?

Yes, my email on my Adobe account is the SAME email I have used for all my MANY Adobe purchases since 1998!   I bought Adobe's first photo editing program BEFORE photoshop was ever imagined.  Photo Home Deluxe, it was called ... I think.  And when Adobe acquired Macromedia, I became an Adobe CS user.

Quite frankly, I am tempted to build a dual-OS PC with W7 Pro ... so I can revert back to CS 6 and Acro XI.  I have not liked CC since 2019 and now I hate Acro DC.   Adobe subscription software has too many buggy updates in my opinion.   The FINAL releases of OLD CS & Acro versions are far more stable than this constantly updated CC crap.

Mr. Isaacs -- PS:  I have Adobe Reader DC installed on my PC too.  Could that be causing a conflict with Acro Pro DC?

PS Redux -- What issues in the final version update version of Acro Pro XI?   Granted, XI lacks the cloud capabilities of DC but as far as a functional standalone PDF creator / editor goes, XI works like a champ.  XI and Acro Pro 9 Extended were the best ever versions of Acrobat ... says a user of Acro user since v5 yr 2001.

PS REDUX II -- The Add Image Issue has been ongoing since 2016 as reported in other posts by other users.  Some Add Image Issue threads are still active since 2016 ... and Acro customers are vigorously complaining about Adobe's inability or unwillingness to fix that issue.   Here are links to SOME of the Add Image Issue posts:
