Is the ifilter still necessary after updateing Adobe DC to 64bit?

We've been installing the ifilter for searching pdf dooucments for years, I was told initially it was because Adovb DC Reader was 32bit.

 

We've updated to Reader to 64-bit - can I get rid of the ifilter - or is it still needed?

    =>Do you have a current iFilter download link?  (The ones I am seeing are no longer available, are otherwise obsolete, or are on possibly sketchy third-party sites.).

     

    (Aside: Also in my post above,  I said "formely"; I meant "formerly".)


    Here is a response from an Adobe reseller who was assigned to a query from me about where to download iFilter:   "I see that you are interested in discussing options that will allow your team to do a full text content of PDFs via Windows 10 desktop folder search and that your current solution (Adobe iFilter) is no longer working. I would love to assist and Adobe iFilter is still the best plugin/product for that use-case. There are a few scenarios that are likely the first being that you recently downloaded Adobe Acrobat or Reader 11.0. If this applies you would just need to update the Acrobat/Reader version to Acrobat/Reader 11.0.4 or higher, additional resources concerning that topic are available here: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/pdf-search-breaks-110-install.html. If you haven’t downloaded that offering recently then it is likely that you are using the older version of iFilter and the current download link for Adobe PDF iFilter 11 for 64-bit platforms is available here: http://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/acrobat/win/11.x/PDFFilter64Setup.msi. "

    I got this to work for WIN10 but did not work for me on WIN11.

    Would you mind sharing more information about the filter you refer to in your post above?

    When you say searching PDF documents, are you referring to search text in the PDFs? Please explain.

    Who suggested you to install this filter?

    We will need more information to provide you with the correct answer.

    Thanks for reeplying.

     

    I'm talking about the Adobe PDF iFilter 11.0.1. It allows Microsoft Windows Search to search for text inside PDF files.

     

    I've answered my own question however with some testing - the filter is still required.

     

    I uninstalled the filter, and was unable to find text I verified was in my test pdf. I reinstalled the filter, reindexed the folder, and Windows Search found the text.

     

    I'm attaching the document that comes with the filter just in case my description did not do the trick.

      Hi all 

      We have Adobe ifilter Version 9 in one of our file server, the indexing of this ifilter application is populating AR9* files in the root folder, it's been from a long time and it almost occupied 64GB due to which we are running out of disk space everytime . Need a permanent fix solution for this either to stop creating AR9 files or moving it to different location . 

       

      NOTE : It's a file server , it is accessible for everyone and we cannot give admin access to the root drive to all the users . 

       

      Please help , if any one knows the fix .
