Is it Acrobat DC or Acrobat 10? The two are not the same thing...
And yes, it is possible. If you have Acrobat DC click the push-pin icon in the menu-bar to keep the tool selected.
In Acrobat X right-click the Highlighter tool and select "Keep Tool Selected".

I have Adobe Acrobat dc and the pin trick doesn't work because the highlight tool deselects itself as soon as I've highlighted one thing. It won't stay selected - drives me crazy!

I have the same problem. The push-pin icon for "keep tool selected" function is greyed out (Acrobat DC). What is the solution to this, please? Thank you.

I had this same problem with Adobe Acrobat DC and could not find the pin tool even after seeing the screenshot, but solved it by right clikcing the toolbar and selecting "Show properties bar" which then opened a pane with the checkbox for "Keep tool selected", so after selecting the highlighter tool I was then able to check the Keep selected box.

Unfortunately, i am having this issue as well and theses "fixes" do not or no longer work.
i have Adobe Acrobat Pro v 2024.002.20736 | 64 bit.
i really use this tool constantly and the fact that it is no longer sticky is really detrimental. has anyone else encountered this and found a work around?
highlighter no longer sticky. highlighter tool won't stay on. Adobe highlighter won't countinuously highlight.

Did you click the pin icon, as described above?

there is no pin icon, greyed out or otherwise. i have also tried right clicking everywhere on the screen to get the described Properties bar to magically appear. i have tried everything in this thread and a dozen other google results to no avail. it appears to have been a function of this particular update to remove this ability.
what version are you using? maybe i can try to roll mine back.

Hey all! FWIW, I think I got it. I'm in Adobe Acrobat Pro (version 2024.002.20964) on a Mac, and I too was having this problem. It's very stupid, but it looks like now -- as of Aug. 2024 -- you can select the tool you want (e.g., the Highlighter) first. Then, once it's selected, a new menu option will appear with a pushpin icon: this icon allows you to choose "Keep Tool Active" or "For Continuous Use." Once you select that, the pushpin changes from angled to pinned/activated, and you'll be able to re-use the Highlighter tool on an ongoing basis until you de-select/unpin this icon. [See the screengrab here with my terrible red arrow pointing at the pin!] Hope this helps anybody still having this problem.

I'm still having an issue. I'm on Acrobat Pro (Version2024.005.20320) on a PC and when I right-click the highlighter tool, the "new menu option" doesn't populate. I can't find anything that says "Keep Tool Active" or For Continous Use". Does anyone have a suggestion on what I need to do to find this?
