Is There An Option To Open Documents In Reading Mode By Default

Hi everyone,

I have a pretty performant computer but in almost any file I opened with Acrobat, there is some delay while a file is being opened or being browsed across its pages. It looks like Acrobat initiates many features as we open documents. In reality, we mostly use it only for reading.

Is there an option to open documents in reading mode (or without initiating those features) by default?

(Creative Cloud and Acrobat installed on mac computer.)

If you don't use the Creative Cloud Desktop app to collaborate with other Adobe subscriptions you can disable it and test performance.

You may also test by disabling some or a few settings throughout the default preferences by going to Edit--->>> Preferences:

  • General
  • Accessibility
  • Adobe Online Services
  • Reviewing
  • Security (Enhanced)
  • Tracker
  • Trust Manager
  • Updater

But most of the unwanted features that you're referring to are usually handled with editing keys in the registry on MS Windows or Plist on macOS.

CTRL+H will open a document in read mode.
