Issue Saving PDF as EPS in Adobe Acrobat After Update

Hello,

I work with technical drawings, which I receive as PDFs from our 3D artist. To extract and edit paths in Illustrator, I usually convert these PDFs to EPS using Adobe Acrobat. This has been the most efficient method for me, especially since the files are multi-page and I often only need selected pages.

However, since the recent Acrobat update, I’ve been encountering the following error when trying to save as EPS:
"The document could not be saved. This file cannot be found."

It's very frustrating, and although I’ve found a workaround—by first converting the PDF to JPG and then to EPS—this adds unnecessary time and steps to my workflow.

Is there a way to resolve this issue so I can once again use the "Save As" command to export directly to EPS from Acrobat?

Thanks for reporting this, and sorry for the troubling experience. I understand how disruptive it can be when a previously working export workflow (PDF to EPS) stops behaving as expected after an update.

 

We’ve attempted to reproduce the issue internally but haven’t seen the same behavior so far. To help us narrow this down and assist you more effectively, could you please share the following details?

  1. The exact steps you’re following to export/save as EPS
  2. What happens when the issue occurs (e.g., error message, nothing happens, wrong output, etc.)
  3. The version of Acrobat you’re currently running (Help > About Adobe Acrobat)
  4. Your operating system and version
  5. Whether any third-party printer drivers (e.g., Adobe PDF, Ghostscript, or custom PostScript drivers) are involved

 

Also, let's try:

 

Use “Print to File” with a PostScript printer driver

If the “Save As EPS” option is missing or failing:

  • Go to File > Print

  • Choose a PostScript-compatible printer (e.g., Adobe PDF )

  • Check Print to File and choose .ps as the format

  • You can then use Adobe Illustrator or Ghostscript to convert the .ps file to .eps

I’m having this exact same issue. 

Up until last week, when I did a complete computer reset and re-downloaded all my Adobe apps, I would open a PDF > Choose File > Export a PDF > Encapsulated PostScript.

This worked perfectly every time.

Now, after re-installing Acrobat, I’m receiving the same error: The document could not be saved. This file cannot be found.

To answer your questions for my issue:

  1. PDF > Choose File > Export a PDF > Encapsulated PostScript
  2. A pop up appears with the exact words: The document could not be saved. This file cannot be found.
  3. Version 2025.001.21223
  4. MacOS Tahoe 26.3
  5. No
