Keyboard Shortcut to Highlight Selected Text Only

Greetings, 

 

In working with records, I highlight a lot of text. 

 

What I need is a keyboard shortcut that does nothing except to add highlighting to the text I select.  I want to the save time compared with the "right-click-and-select-highlight-text" navigation steps.

 

I am familiar with the shortcut Shift+U.  The toggle feature of that shortcut makes it not very useful.  Much of the time, I wind up, e.g., underlining or crossing through text that I wanted, instead, to highlight. 

 

I have looked for info. on the specific kind of shortcut that I described above and found nothing.  Perhaps it does not exist, but it should -- it would be tremendously helpful!
