Large files printing blank

Acrobat version: 25.1.20458.0

Windows 11

Brand new install, everything is up to date.

Printing to a HP PageWide5200. Files that are a few pages work just fine. Larger files 25+ pages get sent over to my printer completley blank.

Have tried multiple files. Works fine on other small-format printers just fine.

Have tried uninstalling/reinstalling Acrobat, drivers, as well as multiple restarts of printer and PC. "Print to image" fix does not work at all. "Document and markups" is selected.

Thanks for sharing the details. Sorry to hear you’re having this frustrating issue with large PDFs printing blank.

It sounds like you’ve already taken some solid initial steps. Let’s try a few more things that have helped other users in similar situations:

Try Preflight (if using Acrobat Pro):

Go to Tools > Print Production > Preflight : https://adobe.ly/42o5gUB
Use the “Flatten transparency” fix-up under PDF/A compliance.

Also, try the following steps and let us know the exact results:

1. Try opening the file in Google Chrome and printing one of the affected large files, and record the results.

2. Try uninstalling Acrobat and installing Reader: https://adobe.ly/4cJ0pkf and record the results.

3. Try disabling protected mode at startup, launch Acrobat,> Edit > Preferences > Security (Enhanced) > Uncheck - "Protected mode at Startup", record the results.

Same results with the preflight fix.

1) Tried printing 2 of the files I've had issues with in Chrome and got similar results. I have also tried every single file I've had issue with in the native HP software (SmartStream) and had no issues and everything prints fine.

2) Same results from Reader.

3) Did this after uninstalling Reader & reinstalling Acrobat. It worked fine for one print then had the issue repeat on any subsequent print.

I hope you are doing well, and thanks for sharing the steps performed and for your cooperation.

Assuming you have the latest printer driver and firmware installed, along with all the mandatory and optional updates of the operating systems, please try these additional steps and let us know if that works for you:

Switch Print Language from PS to PCL (or vice versa): Some HP printers have trouble interpreting complex PDFs in PostScript mode. Go to Printer Properties > Advanced > Printing Defaults. Look for “Driver Language” or “Print Processor” settings. If it’s set to PS (PostScript), try switching to PCL (or vice versa).

Use Acrobat’s PostScript Emulation: In Acrobat’s Print dialog > Advanced, enable: ✅ PostScript Pass-Through. ✅ Rely on system fonts only. Also try “Let printer determine colors” if you’re printing color documents.

Since SmartStream works, the issue might be how Acrobat communicates with the driver/RIP directly. You could share spool files or job logs with HP support, and see if they can assist you in identifying as well if this is a memory or buffer issue on the device.

If the issue persists with the latest Acrobat version 25.001.20458, Planned update, Apr 15, 2025, and the latest printer driver and firmware, please collect the logs from the affected machine, the OS version installed, the printer firmware version, and the make and model, as well as a sample PDF through which the issue is reproducible, and share them with us for further investigation.

I think I've narrowd the problem down to a port mismatch issue. Considering this ended up not being an Adobe problem at all - thanks for going above and beyond trying to help.
