Question

licensing for this product has stopped working

When trying to open Acrobat 9 Pro, I get the message:

Licensing for this product has stopped working

(148:3)

I went to one of Adobe sites for a fix and tried

  Solution 1: Apply the Licensing Service Update.

However, for sone reason that program would not run (python25.dll was not found)

I'm on a windows laptop runninr windows 10 Home

If you where using Acrobat 9 and it upgraded to a version later then AAm 6.2 then that may be the issue you are having.

 

If that's case then the easiest fix is to completely uninstall Acrobat 9 and remove all folders that are have to do with Acrobat 9 in your \Program Files, Program Files\Common Files, Program Files (x86), and Program Files (x86)\Common Files folders.

 

Adobe Application Manager is likely the issue. After AAM 6.2 the Adobe Application Manager only works with the Subscription versions. All perpetual versions Adobe products will be immediatly updated to the Subscription version of Adobe Application Manager 8.0 or higher.

 

The one other thing it could be is Adobe flash.

 

The only way to get the old perpetual versions to install correctly is to install them off  line and manually update them right after the install. This means you have to have all the updates on hand before you install, all offline e.g. no internet access.

 

After you have installed and updated the old perpetual version. you will need to disable AAM which is Adobes update tool so that it wont try to update your perpetual version to a subscription version.

 

Since all Adobe perpetual versions (pre-subcription) are EOL then you don't need to have the Adobe update engine running. The easiest way to to keep the update app from running is to search your C: drive for pdapp.exe then rename it to pdapp.exe.bak. That should stop it from updating to a subsription verion.

Adobe Flash also included code to keep you from installing the older perpetual versions. So if it's installed you will need to uninstall and remove any folders it may have created to install your paid for (perpetual licensed versions) Adode  software.

 

The cutoff for perpetual versions was Adobe Creative Suite 6. They changed the licensing model in between CS6 and the first CC (Creative Cloud) versions. There is a CS6 subcription version and this is the problem with any earlier version of Adobe software. The CC version of CS6 or the subscription version installed AAM 8.0. This is the update software for Adobe products.

 

The minute you install any of the older software the very first update is Adobe Application Manager or AAM.

 

If you are online during your perpetual Adobe installation it will update to the subscription model with out asking you then tell you your software is out of date and won't allow you access to update your older version automatically.

Acrobat 9 is outdated, not supported by Adobe and not compatible with your OS. Problems are to be expected.
