Links in this document could not be retained in the converted PDF.

I am no longer able to convert Word Documents to PDF. I get the following error when attempting "Links in this document could not be retained in the converted PDF." There are no links in my document. Any idea what changed recently?

Hi Zacc,

 

Hope you are doing well and sorry to hear that. As described you are no longer able to convert Word Documents to PDF and get the following error when attempting "Links in this document could not be retained in the converted PDF."

 

- Would you mind sharing the steps you are doing to create the PDF form MS Word?

 

- Is this a behavior with a particular Word file or with all the Word files? Please try with a different file and check

 

- What is the version of the Acrobat DC you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the recent version 21.11.20039 installed. Go to Help > Check for Updates and reboot the computer once.

 

Please try to create the PDF from the Acrobat ribbon in the MS Word tool bar and check if that works. You may also try to print the Word file to Adobe PDF and check if that works. Also please go through the help page https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/how-to/create-pdf-files-word-excel-website.html for more information about creating PDFs from MS Office.

I haven't been able to figure out what is triggering the error as there are no actual links in the word document. Multiple different documents are seeing the error, but not all documents.

 

The error message WAS occuring when I click the "Create PDF" icon on the Microsoft Word ribbon; when I go to File>Save As>PDF Format; & when I go to File>Print>Save as PDF. The file I was trying to save yesterday is now abale to save as PDF. So my issue may be resolved. 

 

I use Acrobat DC through the Creative Cloud and the version you listed above is what I am using.

Hi Zacc,

 

Thanks for sharing more insights. Saving the file as PDF is the Microsoft process of creating the PDF, please try to save the file as Adobe PDF or print to Adobe PDF and check.

 

You may also try to create the PDF from the Acrobat File menu > create > PDF from file and see if that works
