Measurements Disappear & Measurement Scale Fail.

New Here ,
Sep 03, 2024 Sep 03, 2024

Hi Friends,

I've the following issues with adobe acrobat.

  • I've scaled a drawing at 1:100, then shortly after changed the scale to 1:160. Sadly, the measurements after the change don't correlate to the 1:160 scale, they remain at 1:100, but the scale (right click) is showing 1:160.
  • I used to be able to do multiple measurements with the ruler on a single page, say for example I wanted to measure the area of a desk, then the perimeter of the building, and finally the width of a window. Now, I can only have 1 measurement on the page. It's incredibly inefficient.
  • When using the measuring tool, after completing the measurement I then select any other tool (line marking/drawing, text etc) and the measurement disappears from the screen and I'm unable to even return it with ctrl z.

The above only started happening this year but I'm unable to recall when.

Hi @cory_0345

Hope you are doing well. Sorry for the trouble, and the delayed response.

In case you are still looking for a solution, here are some suggestions you might want to try:

1. Scale Not Updating Properly

If the scale remains at 1:100 even after changing it to 1:160:

  • Ensure you're using "Change Scale Ratio and Precision" (Right-click → Change Scale Ratio) rather than just manually entering the new value.
  • If the issue persists, try clearing measurement settings:
    1. Close Acrobat
    2. Navigate to: C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Acrobat\DC
    3. Delete the MeasurementToolPrefs.xml file (or rename it for backup).
    4. Restart Acrobat and reconfigure the measurement settings.

2. Unable to Have Multiple Measurements on the Same Page

This might be due to a setting change:

  • Check if "Measurement Markups" is enabled
    1. Go to Edit → Preferences → Measuring (2D)
    2. Ensure "Use measurement markups" is checked.
    3. If unchecked, enable it and restart Acrobat.

Hope this helps.
