Need to upgrade from Acrobat 8 Pro (ver 8.3.1), expecting problems

I am running Acrobat 8 Professional version 8.3.1 on a MacBook Pro running OSX Mojave version 10.14. I need to update Acrobat to a more current version that is 64 bit compatible, I'm thinking Acrobat Pro 2017. Given the many versions being skipped in such an upgrade, I am anticipating problems. What would you recommend as the safest way to perform such an upgrade?

Forget about an upgrade. It's not possible, not from the licensing stand-point nor from a technical stand-point.

You just need to purchase a new, full, license.

OK - figured that might be the case. Best to un-install the old version before installing the new one, or the other way around? I want to be sure all my old PDF's will open with the new version and I can confidently toss the old one.

You should uninstall it before installing the new version.
