No Print of PDF after updating mac sonoma

Community Beginner ,
Sep 23, 2023 Sep 23, 2023

Hi,

afer updating to Sonoma I'm not able to print in Acrobat. The Adobe Distiller is opening automatically and then the following error occurs:

A PDF file cannot be created from the following file:

/var/folders/wl/rf9rt6y96jd46gqsn6h12zbw0000gn/T/PSbmDDom.tmp

For details on how to use the Adobe PDF settings: Standardqualität

see the log file

Does someone know a hint how to solve the problem? Printing with adobe reader ist possible.

Hi Richard17522978z9tj,

The latest Adobe Acrobat version (23.06.20360) released addresses this issue. As you have Acrobat 2017, it might not work with the newest version. You may try installing the latest version of Acrobat Reader and check if that helps.

As it is an optional version, please update the application to the newest version using the following steps:

- In Acrobat, go to Menu > Help
- Select "Check for Updates."

For more information about the new release, refer to the following link: Adobe Acrobat Release Notes.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,
Meenakshi

Hope this helps everyone. I am running Sonoma with latest OS 14.2.1 and deleted the current version of Acrobat on my MacBook M2 Max. I removed it and into the trash. Reinstalled the latest Acrobat Reader and I noticed the interface had changed, and using Google Chrome it printed flawlessly. Printed from the print icon in the program. Previously with the previous version I had spent all moring updating drivers, firmware, trying different browsers, and even updating Sonoma from 14 to 14.2.1. I thought it was an M2 compatibility issue but it appears just getting rid of the earlier version of Acrobat Reader did the trick.

See This article: https://eclecticlight.co/2023/09/25/postscripts-sudden-death-in-sonoma/

Acrobat cannot print a Postscript file to a non-postscript printer, and Sonoma does not recognize my Xerox printer as being a Postscript printer (which it is). I installed the Generic Postscript Printer driver instead of the Xerox driver, and now everything is working. This may be a fix for yuou if you own a postscript printer.

If you don't have a Postscript printer the only two choices you seem to have are:

  1. After selecting print, click the Advanced tab and check "Print as image."
  2. Use the macOS Preview application.

I'm sure Apple and/or Adobe will fix the problem soon. (sarcasm)

Even though, when checking for updates, I was told I had the latest version of Acrobat Pro I found an “optional update” at https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/ReleaseNotesDC/continuous/dccontinuousoct2023.htm...

Downloaded the optional update and problem solved.

Printing as a Preview works! However, the full production Sonoma is still viewed by Adobe as "beta".

They ended Postscript support, so the only way to get around this is to print as an image. Click Advanced and hit the "Print as Image." Article on what happened to PS on Sonoma. https://eclecticlight.co/2023/09/25/postscripts-sudden-death-in-sonoma/

I have the same - even after re-installation of Adobe Acrobat Pro, no printing or pdf's possible. Distiller hangs immediately.
No beta version, but full, updated, versions... We need a solution soon.

Thank you. I am however also trying to understand what is causing this and why certain others seem to solve this with a re-installation (which did not work in my case).

Did anybody also notice something weird in the Distiller output window upon a print command within Acrobat Pro? With me it apparently wants to apply a joboption that has been deleted long time ago and is no longer on my system. I however cannot seem to retrieve where this is coming from or to deselect it.

Hello, I posted earlier about print "As Image." Although this workaround might work for Acrobat Pro users, the more significant issue remains that we can't print from Acrobat Pro (various versions) with crisp text. Printing as an Image produces a rasterized version of the text that looks fuzzy coming out of most laser printers, etc. I reinstalled Acrobat Pro, and this didn't solve my printing issue.  Since my business revolves around printing, I tried a second workaround: I installed the FREE version of Acrobat Reader and was able to print without problems. Until a solution is found to this annoying issue, try printing from the Acrobat Reader instead of Pro.

I am also having this same issue. I opened the Word document on my iPhone, "exported" the document to .pdf, and then saved the export to my Files app. The Word document "printed" perfectly to .pdf, and I could almost immediately use the new .pdf document on my Macbook.
