OCR fails to recognize up to 50%

Explorer ,
Jul 03, 2023 Jul 03, 2023

When I try to recognize a page of text, Acrobat Pro (2023) misses half of the words.

While the source PDF is not the best, the free online OCR sites get it >99% correct.

Hi @PeterKC

Hope you are doing well and thanks for reaching out.

Is this an issue with a particular PDF file or with all the PDFs? Please try with a different PDF file and check. If its a file-specific issue please share the PDF in question with us for further testing at our end.

Also a small video recording of the steps and the issue would b very helpful.

What is the version of the Acrobat Pro you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the recent version 23.03.20215 installed. Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once. You may also try to repair the installation from the help menu.

Also please go through the help page https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/error-could-perform-recognition-acrobat.html and see if that works.

Regards

Amal

it happened with several PDFs, all from page photos.

Acrobat Pro is part of a CC subscription, which says it is up to date.

In the app [Build: 22.3.20310.0], Check for Updates produces error 105, Cannot connect to Adobe update server.… (Internet connection is not the problem.)

Will uninstall and then reinstall the app. and see if that gets me the latest version, then will try again.

Hi there

You may download the updated patch manually from the link https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/ReleaseNotesDC/index.html and see if that helps.

Thanks, Amal.

Deleting the app & reinstalling via CC got me build 23.3.20215.0.

I’ll try some new OCR from image to PDF tomorrow if I get a chance.

Tried again with the up-to-date app.

Original was from a book, and the curved appearance of the text creates a mess with Adobe Acrobat. Free online OCR process it correctly.

Hi there

Would you mind sharing a small video recording of the steps you are doing and the issue you are experiencing for a better understanding?

Also, Would you mind collecting the Adobe CC logs https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-log-collector.html , Procmon logs (Win Only) https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/Labs/acromonitor.html and share them via any cloud storage. Just upload the log file to the cloud, generate the link, and share that link with us for further investigation.

Regards
Amal
