Office 365 Will Not Convert to PDF

Explorer ,
Feb 01, 2022 Feb 01, 2022

All of a suddent, I cannot save from Word or Excel to PDF.  For Word, I liked to use "Save as Adobe PDF."  Now that does nothing. The Acrobat menu in the Ribbon does nothing, either.  I stll can Save and then select PDF as the file type.  So, it looks like the Office programs are working but the Adobe Acrobat add in is not.  I ahve a subscription ot Office 365 and Acrobat DC.  I uninstalled both of them several times.  I loaded them each one at time -- one time I loaded Office first and the Acrobat.  Anotehr time, I did it in the other order.  Ic checked add in, and the PDFMaker box is checked.  I've tried everything!  Why did this stop working suddenly?  There are many features that are supposed to be available by integration of Acrobat and Office, but, in my case, the add in is not working at all.  When I try to save the file, there is nothing saved to the folder I select.

Uninstall both programs.

Reboot your computer...a cold reboot, not a restart. That means shut down, count to 5, and restart your computer.

Install MS Office first.

Install Acrobat last so that it can add the PDF Maker plug-in to your MS Office.

As @Dave Creamer of IDEAS alluded, PDF Maker is available only on Windows machines, not Macs. (IMHO, that's a severe shortcoming, but I understand that it's something about Apple, not Microsoft or Adobe.)

If you're on a Mac, you're only option is to use File / Save As / PDF and use Microsoft's internal utility for exporting.

I tried the recommendations with no results.  I removed Office and Acrobat.  I shut down computer and waited a few minutes before re-starting it.  Then I installed Office again.  I checked to see that it worked, and it did.  Then I shut down computer again, waited, re-started and re-loaded Acrobat.  Same problems.  I shut down computer, waited, and re-started.  Same problems.  When I try to Save as PDF or use the Adobe add in, the computer hangs, then says "Working on It" and finally prompts me for s place to save the file.  When I save it and go to the folder, there is no PDF there.

To follow-up on the above, I uninstalled Office again, and I ran Creative Cloud Uninstaller to remove all Adobe products.  ThenI re-onstalled Office, shut down and re-started.  Then I re-nstalled Acrobat DC again.  Still the same issues.  I get all kinds of error messages when using Office apps.  In Word, it asked me to enable PDFMaker, which I allowed it to do.  In Outlook, I got the error message on attached file.  Very frustrating!

Like this thread started, PDFMaker on my computer suddenly no longer works with MS Word and Outlook.
Office 365 apps and PDFMaker worked well until I upgraded from Acrobat Pro 2017 to Acrobat Pro DC on Feb 1, 2022.  Now, PDFMaker with MS Word produces no PDF file output.  Moreover, PDFMaker with MS Outlook produces the error message "Acrobat PDFMaker has detected problems in installation.  Please repair/re-install Adobe Acrobat."  My uninstalling Acrobat Pro DC, rebooting, and reinstalling Acrobat Pro DC did not fix the PDFMaker problem with either MS Word or MS Outlook.
Might the new build 16.0.14827.20158 (version 2201) of Office 365 be causing problems for PDFMaker?  My computer now is running Office 365 build 16.0.14827.20158 (version 2201), which my computer installed Feb 2, 2022.
For comparison, PDFMaker works fine with Office 365 build 16.014729.20260 (version 2112) on my laptop computer.
To repeat:  Is PDFMaker compatible with Office 365 build 16.0.14827.20158 (version 2201)?

Uninstalling and reinstalling Office 365 and Acrobat Pro DC several times and running AcroCleaner did not fix the problem with PDFMaker and Office 365 apps.
Instead of Acrobat Pro DC, I switched to Acrobat Pro 2020.  PDFMaker and the Office 365 apps work fine when Acrobat Pro 2020 is installed in my computer.
My solution to the PDFMaker problems:  Use Acrobat Pro 2020 instead of Acrobat Pro DC.

I'm running Office 2201 build 14827.20186 and Acrobat Pro DC 2021,001,20039 without issue--so the answer is "yes".

I didn't see where you mentioned if you used Acrobat Help>Repair Installation?

Did you try the Adobe CC Cleaner tool?

David,

Thank you for your thorough reply and suggestions.  I tried Acrobat Help>Repair Installation several times without curing this problem.  The Adobe CC Cleaner tool is a good resource, but it did not cure this problem.

Here are additional observations:  When Acrobat Pro DC is loaded on my computer, PDFMaker in an Office 365 application (e.g., Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) starts and shows the "Save Adobe PDF File As" window that asks where to save the PDF file.  I can open the Options window.  But clicking "Save" in the "Save Adobe PDF File As" window does not produce a PDF file but instead simply returns to the Office 365 application.

You confirm that PDFMaker is compatible with the current versions of Office 365.  Thus, something is blocking PDFMaker from making a PDF file with Office 365 applications on my computer.  Without more time for debugging, my solution is to use Acrobat Pro 2020 instead of Acrobat Pro DC.

Why should PDFMaker work with Acrobat Pro 2020 and not with Acrobat Pro DC on the same computer?   Curious, indeed.
