Opening PDF error message

When opening a PDF I get this error message

I have checked for updates but DC is up to date

I have run preflight and returns with this

Adobe Acrobat DC doesn't support PDF version 2.7.

This confuses me as I converted a Word first from within Word then secondly by right clicking on the Word doc. I ran the preflight on both and it showed the PDF Version was 1.6?!?

Another question: Does MS Word have it's own in built distiller / print to PDF version?

My MS Word appears to be version 1.6 from the preflight report, even when right clicking on the document and converting to PDF?!?
