I get ERROR 57 when trying to open a PDF in Adobe Acrobat Pro 2020, but it opens successfully using Adobe Acrobat Reader Pro.

These are PDF files from University. Sample file attached. Thoughts?

There is no Reader Pro. You either have Acrobat Reader, Acrobat or Acrobat Pro. If you have a perpetual licence, you have Acrobat or Acrobat Pro YEAR. If you have a subscription, you have Acrobat [Pro] DC.

I have Acrobat Pro DC and opened your document without any trouble. I've checked the properties. It claims to be an Acrobat PDF version 1.4 which is not a recent version. I do not see any reason, why it shouldn't open on your computer, as Acrobat 5 would open this document.

As the Document is protected, I can't go further.

Hi Adambo,

I am also able to open the PDF in Acrobat DC but I am unable to open it in Acrobat Pro 2021. Any ideas why? Is there limitations between the perpetual license and the subscription-licensed product?

Thanks,

Hi,

Please remove all the other acrobat application and reinstall the acrobat pro again.

You can use this acro cleaner tool to remove all the acrobat app

For windows system

https://ardownload2.adobe.com/pub/adobe/acrobat/win/AcrobatDC/2100120135/x64/AdobeAcroCleaner_DC2021.exe

For macos

https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/Labs/AcroCleanerMac.dmg

Reinstall the application from your adobe account.

Sign in at https://account.adobe.com/ products under registered product you will find serial number and download link to install the application.

Reason is you will feature issue if you use two acribat application on one system because they belong to same application family, so they conflict.

Thanks.
