Print Production Art Moves after Printer Marks Set

Hello! I am a total rookie at graphic design. I am using the Print Production tools for the first time, and I am running into an issue when I set the bleed and trim marks. My art jumps to the lower left corner, outside of the trim box when I set my the trim and bleed marks!

Here are the specs of my project:

1. Trifold brochure

2. Made in Publisher (I know, not the best) exported to PDF

3. Original page size of Publisher file is Landscape, 11.25" x 8.75" (I added 0.25" to allow room for my art backgrounds to extend beyond the 11" x 8.5"for bleeds. The final size I am going for is paper size 11" x 8.5".

Here are the steps I am taking:

Step 1
Be sure to save an original of the client file. Always start with a duplicate. Open the PDF, choose tools and select Print Production.

Step 2

Select the Set Pages Box.

Step 3
Under Change Page Size, click custom and enter a size that is 1” larger than your page size (8.5x11 will be 9.5x12). Be sure the center checkbox is selected. And All is selected under Page Range if it is a multiple page PDF file.

Your document size should be larger and you will see a guideline around the area that is your page size. If you do not see a guideline, click Output Preview and check Show Art, Trim and Bleed Boxes.

Step 4
Click the Add Printer Marks. Choose Trim Marks and Bleed Marks. Style should remain default, line weight is .25 and embed printer marks with layers is checked. Choose All pages under Page Range. Click ok.

Once I do step 5, my content jumps to the lower left corner, outside of the Trim and Bleed areas! Is there an error with my margin settings? When I try to drag the art back over to the box, it's all in pieces. If I try to select the whole art area, then the trim and bleed boxes highlight and move, too! Does anybody know the solution? The pics below show my steps, and the result. Thanks for any help!Screenshot (29).pngScreenshot (30).pngScreenshot (31).pngScreenshot (32).png

Same issue and it only happens to the first page in my document. All of the others stay in place. Would love to find a solution for this.

I was able to reproduce the issue. Does seem like a bug.

However, as a workaround for now, if you expand the page size, save that as a new file at that point, THEN add the crop marks, it seems to work.

btw, you do not actually have any bleed in your file. Also, there's no need to include Bleed Marks, printers don't need them.

Thanks, Brad. I got mine to bypass the bug last night by applying the process to all of the other pages besides page 1, saving, and then applying it to page 1.   It might be something similar to whatever process fixed it in yours. At least this will be here next year when I search again about this issue. We only go through this at the end of each year. 🙂

It was definitely inconsistent. I tried a few different files on both Mac and PC and on some it didn't happen at all, on another it screwed up on a different page altogether (i.e not page 1).

I went back to an older version of Acrobat to test and it didn't happen at all, so it seems to be a bug in more recent versions.
