"Error attempting to read from file" while pasting an image

New Here ,
Aug 24, 2023 Aug 24, 2023

When I try to paste an image in a document the message "Error attempting to read from file" appears.  At the bottom of the screen it looks like it is trying to open the image I am trying to paste and says "Opening Image File as Adobe PDF" but never opens nor pastes.  I have been pasting images for years without a problem.  Please help.

Thank you,

Justin

Hi @Justin226434439cb1

Hope you are doing well and thanks for reaching out.

Have you started experiencing this issue recently?

What is the version of the Acrobat DC you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the latest version 23.03.20284 installed. Go to Help > Check for Updates and reboot the computer once.

Is this a behavior with a particular PDF file or with all the PDFs? Please try to open a different PDF file the similar way and check for the issue.

Also, for testing purposes, please try to turn off the protected mode (Windows Only) and see if that makes any difference. Go to Edit > Preferences > Enhanced Security > Uncheck 'Enable protected mode at startup' Turn off the protected mode and uncheck the enhanced security > Click OK and reboot the computer.
Note: Turn on the security after testing to avoid any security risk.

Let us know how it goes.

Regards

Amal

Hello Amal,
Thank you so much for your reply.

Yes, recently. I went on vacation and came back and started having the
problem.

I am using version 2020.005.30514. This does not match what you wrote so I
clicked check for updates and says no updates available.

I have tried on different PDF files with the same issue.

Because you asked me to check different PDF files I tried copying from a
different program. I have been using paint.net to edit images to copy into
PDF which gave me the error message. I just tried to copy from the
microsoft program paint and I did not get the error. So I assume the issue
has to do with paint.net.

Not sure where to go from here since I am used to using paint.net.

Thank you again,
Justin

Hi there

Thanks for sharing the information. As the Acrobat application is working fine with other applications, it seems to be an issue with paint.net. Please try to contact the paint.net support team for more information.

Thanks.

Amal
