"Maintenance completed, you must restart Adobe"

When I open a pdf file, or just open Adobe, there is a white-on-green message at top right, saying "maintenance completed", and across the center of my screen is a dialog box that says "maintenance completed, you must restart Adobe."  And there is a buttom to "restart" and for "lean more."  But neither button works.  I have rebooted my computer but it's still there.  Any advice?  Do I have to uninstall Acrobat and reinstall it?

Well, the situation has resolved itself.  I can work with pdfs just fine.  I guess it took a very, very long time for Adobe to respond to the restart commands I gave it.  Adobe has always been extremely slow on my computer, but this is the slowest I've seen it.  Any, problem solved.  Never mind.

Hi @John30929044tjlx

Hope you are doing well. Sorry for the delay in response.

Glad to hear that you have managed to find the solution on your own.

As mentioned, the Acrobat seems to be working slowly on your machine. Try a couple of troubleshooting steps to check if that makes any improvement:

Acrobat and Reader official update  23.003.20244 is now available. This update will be automatically pushed to all existing installations of Acrobat and Reader. If you want, you may also manually trigger the update early by opening the application and going to Help > Check for Updates>reboot Acrobat.

More information about this release is here: Release Notes | Adobe Acrobat, Reader

If you experience performance issues while working on specific PDF files, then.

Navigate to Acrobat>Preferences>Security (Enhanced)>disable "Protected Mode at Start-up," "Protected View," and "Enhanced Security">OK>close and reopen Acrobat [Windows only]

Note: these changes are only for testing purposes. Once tested, please change it back to the previous setting.

Thanks,

Akanchha
