Question

Radio Button Export Value (sequential number)

Hi there,

My client is having issues with onboarding an interactive PDF form with Radio Buttons created in InDesign. Each series have the same 'name' but with different 'Button Values' which their system is capturing, but also a series of numbers. For instance, if there are 5 radio buttons to a series with the same name but with different values, it's exporting as 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, ValueA, ValueB, ValueC, ValueD, ValueF.

Note - The sequential numbers are not appearing in Acrobat within the object properties, but using something like PDFescape.com confirms that the Button Value is not as it should appear. Screenshot attached showing Export Value as 0, but in Acrobat it shows as 'employed'.

Can anyone help me or knows what is going on here. Is this a JavaScript issue, InDesign issue, or a Mac-related problem?

Need help ASAP.

Thanks

Jarrad

Did anyone happen to find the solution to this issue? I am running into the same problem.

Hi Jarrad,

So after much investigation into the issue and reaching out to Adobe as well as the company whose software we are currently using, I believe I have the answer to your question. If the form that you have built using InDesign uses the interactive form options (Radio Buttons), the export of the form to PDF will cause it to be exported as a Dynamic XFA document. This seems to cause issues with a lot of the PDF reading libraries for one reason or another as they seem to target functionality with Static XFA documents. But, in this particular case, it is causing these libraries to read in the export values of the radio buttons as integers rather than the "button value" set in InDesign.

InDesign doesn't create XFA forms!

Why would you have 2 different series using the same name? Use a unique name for each series.

Hi Mike,

Each group of radio buttons use the same series name (ie. Language). The button values are different, for example, EN, FR, SP as I only want the user to select one of the buttons. Does that make sense?

Hi Bernd,

I'm not using any particular script. Basically exporting from Adobe InDesign 2021 as an Interactive PDF
