Question

Real basic info on what we need to collect e-signatures

Our organization just got a license for Adobe Acrobat DC, we are told we can use this 'software' to collect e-signatures.

If I look at the free Adobe reader DC that is out there, it does have a simple sign functionality, you can fill out blank spaces in forms (seems to recognized the blanks, we didn't build our PDFs with form fields) then click the Sign icon again to collect and paste in a signature, wherever.  This seems to be part of the reader though, the freeware.

What does 'membership' with Adobe bring to the table for us ?  Thinking that our institution does not want to get down to the level of installing certificates.  Does some use of the above signing procedures maybe "through" the adobe sign web application provide the necessary level of vetting ?  I am completely in the dark here, ANY input would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

Fill & Sign is handled and enforced with E-Sign when you implemet a workflow with Adobe Sign

Here is everything you may want to sift through if you decide the Adobe Sign workflow is best for you:

https://helpx.adobe.com/sign/using/reference-guides.html

To clarify, Adobe Sign employs electronic signatures using a solid verification mechanism.

It may not employ the use of a self-signed digital certificate with SHA hashing and decryption algorithms to protect and/or verify the validity of the signature once it is applied. BUT Adobe Sign is certified compliant with ISO 27001, SOC 2 Type 2, and PCI DSS  as stated here in the Adobe Sign FAQs: https://helpx.adobe.com/sign/faq.html

That is the highest standards.

You,  as the creator of the form can implement  Adobe Sign to assign signature blocks per recipient, by which a unique email address  is used to  uniquely identify the signer with their signature block.

This doesn't allow  just anyone to sign that block, that is the first layer of verification mechanism in this workflow.

In addition, before you send the form to collect signatures, you have options to collect the signature in Order listed or any order, have the individual sign in person with "Get Signature in Person" and then have that person sign right in front of you using your own tablet or mobile device with a touch scereen, for example. The recipient can use the finger method, or a wet signature, or even an electronic signature personalized with company logo.

The other layer of security relies heavily on assigning a password intended just for that signing  recipient  to be able to open the document, and on the very last step of this process, before the user commits to sign he/she will get a notification to Agree and consent to the Terms of Use to do business electronically :

See here for more clarification:  https://helpx.adobe.com/sign/using/customize-terms-of-use.html

And last, once you create this workflow, you can save it as a template that you can reuse over and over  again.

I've moved this from the poorly named Community Help forum (which is the forum for issues using the forums) to the Acrobat forum so that proper help can be offered.
