Good morning everyone, I've been having a problem with Adobe Acrobat for a few days. I try to open some PDFs, but the system says: "Adobe Acrobat cannot open 'file name' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)."
I can understand if this happens once, but I find it hard to believe that it's happened 3 or 4 times in the last 3 or 4 days.
What’s the issue?

Hi @PaoloSciunnach,
Thank you for reaching out with your question. Sorry for the troubled experience.
Considering the error, it indicates the files are getting corrupted, as you have already figured that out. You can try opening those files in something like Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. These PDF viewers avoid a lot of PDF standard checks while rendering PDF files; this way, you can view files if you can see the PDF content.
Also, try opening the file in Acrobat Web: https://adobe.ly/4kkhymW;
From a troubleshooting point of view, you may try the following:
· Disable cloud sync paths — try opening PDFs saved directly on your desktop (not from OneDrive or Dropbox).
· Turn off preview pane in Windows File Explorer — this can sometimes trigger Acrobat in the background.
· Reset Acrobat preferences: close Acrobat, go to C:\Users\<YourName>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Acrobat\<version> (this will reset user preferences to default) and rename the folder to let Acrobat create a new one.
· Check under Preferences > Security (Enhanced) and Reading for features that might slow down document loading.
Also, if the files were originally sent from your machine, you need to check what happened to them before they ended up throwing errors.
Were any changes made to the files using a third-party app, etc?
Let us know how it works at your end.
~Tariq
